I just bought a black 2012 Prius III and I couldn't agree with you more about those absolutely UGLY hubcaps. Thinking about removing them. What's your thought about black wheels on a black car?

Probably be fine with black on black. Remove them, put them in the trunk and try out the look. I use some tire shine to dress it up.

Removing hubcaps cant be that significant or any change at all due to the prius plus package doesnt have them and gas mileage isnt changed

I finally removed mine. Order a set of wheel center caps that came off a 2009 Toyota Yaris according to the seller and they fit perfectly. Made no sense keeping the hubcaps on the mags.

I have been driving around for a week and zero difference in my fuel consumption. In fact my fuel consumption has decreased but betting it is becasue the temp dropped and I am not using AC :D

Here is a closeup pic without the hubcaps and with the wheel center caps. Yes my mags are dirty :D

Works with the white also. If the wheels are really alloy. I'm tempted to have the dipped to remove the black paint. Sounds crazy to paint alloy wheels black and then put plastic hubcaps on them to make them look like unpainted alloy but it looks like that's what Toyota does.

could have sworn someone on the site is looking to trade their silver alloy wheels for the black ones. not sure who it is though.

I am with F8L about the black wheels maybe for different reasons. It just looks like you lost the hubcaps and were too cheap to replace them with something. fgp's ride looks nice in the pic... but maybe better if the wheels were larger IMO. Keep in mind I have the Winter Grey, and they should work for some with the hub caps off as well.

Just not moved as yet to remove them myself for no better reason to make the car look better on my 2012...

Didn't see that but usually the freight etc. makes it not worth the hassle. Of course dipping would probably be $50-75 each but cheaper than $100 each for new bright alloys from Tire Rack and then more frt and then installing the the tire pressure sensors etc. But then have to put the car on blocks. Guess I'm going to live with the black/white motif.

Actually I get the opposite reaction with "How much were those black alloy wheels". Enough people pay a lot of money for the black alloy look that they think you paid a lot of money for them. You have to keep the tires and wheels shiny though using the tire bright stuff but that's true with the 15" bright alloys also. Something about the small tires/wheels that makes them look too small for the car. Keeping the tire and black alloy bright helps.

I think fgp was referring to a user on here from Roanoke VA, not a bad 500 mile trip for me. But I did not bite because of the cost of the tire change and all.... not to mention I am still on the fence about my caps and making the jump to other wheels.

I think I'll keep those ugly cheap looking hubcaps on for awhile. If I need to 'try' or have to think about how to like the wheels without the hubcaps then it really isn't working for me. Maybe I'll go to a tire place and replace the black wheels with silver wheels. I agree with the person who said it kind of looks like you lost your hubcaps or that they were stolen. Toyota created a great car but went very cheap on a few things (hubcaps/wheels, stereo, and interior materials). You almost have to spend 30K on an upgraded Prius to get away from the cheapness which kind of defeats the purpose of having one of these cars.

Did add the Euro mud flaps, Rav4 side molding and the silver lower side molding. Added the lower one by accident I thought I was getting an actual side molding not some silver trim.
