    Hi all

I would like to install Fog light in my 2010 Prius III, however I do not want to go all the trouble to install all the wires and switch inside the car, my ideal was just want to install the Fog light and tab them through the low beam head light, mainly just for the look and I will use the LED for the Fog light, is that a good ideal or I am going to burn out anything?? any help would be thanks:)

There was a good thread on this fairly recently. I proposed a circuit using relays that would shutdown the fogs when the highbeams were on otherwise they remained on with the parking/lowbeams.

As long as ur using a LED bulb in the fog housing u should be ok however if u decide that u want a reg halogen bulb, I would install a relay harness since the low beam headlight circuit wasn't designed to power 2 bulbs per side.

Here what I plan to buy

Toyota Prius 2010-2012 OE Fog Lights - Clear | eBay

120 LED Car Fog Parking Head Light Cold White 12V Vehicle New H11 SMD 3528 | eBay

Since ur going with the 55w HIDs, I would install a relay harness for the low beams........even if u weren't going to use the LED fogs. The power that the 55e HIDs consume is more that what the halogen bulbs use. The LED fog light hips don't consume that much power so they wont require their own relay. Hope this helps.

The HID bulbs I used is direct replace halogen bulbs came with the car, I did not install any relay at all, the halogen bulbs came with the car was 55w, so that why did not have any relay needed, so do you think that I am going any problem if I tap in power of the low beam for the LED fog light? how about I tap in the parking light?

    Hello Khoi,

What sfv41901 is trying to explain is this. The 55w Halogen bulbs have a filament inside that produces the light when you apply 12v to them. The filament not only makes the light but it creates heat and it draws current, measured in amperes, from the circuit you connect it to.

The LED's you want to use have no filaments at all, the light comes from surface mounted diodes that create light, but produce no appreciable heat and draw a very very small amount of current compared to Halogen bulbs.

If you were to wire your LED's to the park circuit or the low beam circuit you will be fine as the extra current draw will be hardly noticeable.

But if you decide at some point to use 55w Halogen bulbs with high current draw you will need to have a separate circuit just for them alone, along with a relay and a fuse to protect it should something go wrong with the wiring. The fuse is an intentional "weak link" that will break the circuit if there is a short circuit or high current draw.

No one wants to see you have your wiring catch fire and burn up your car!!

    Hope this helps you!

    Cheers! :D

Oh.....ur still using halogen bulbs? When u said u were using 55w 5000k HID bulbs, it made it sound like they are HID bulbs.

So to get this straight.........u do not have a ballast powering the headlight bulb, right? The bulb u have are Halogen?

If this is the case & ur using Halogen bulbs, u will not need a relay harness to power the LED fog light bulbs.

If at some point u decide that u want to replace the LED fog light bulbs with either halogen or HID, u should install a relay harness.

ok, let get it straight, I DO NOT using any ballast powering my low beam head light, I am using 55w HID 5000k for my low beam head light

They are just blue colored halogen bulbs.

As long as u just use the LED bulbs in the fog light u'll be good without the relay harness.
