I had extensive practice with this Sunday (in my PlugIN). Using Entune via the iPhone and the USB port didn't change much for me other than being able to see the Pandora stations on the screen. One thing I did not care for was the NAV speaking her commands WHILE a phone call was in progress. Wth!? How ... annoying! And, every time you tap the voume speaker to turn it off/down, she keeps talking!! If I can listed to my books on Audible by streaming bluetooth, phone talk on Bluetooth, stream the Pandora on the few occasions I use it, why do I need Entune anyway? I guess that's my burning question.
I got mine upgraded by the Tech Guy for the dealership. He plugged in a usb and it took about 10 minutes to configure. The latest software is v 1.84.
iPhone will not pair via bluetooth for internet usage through the head unit. If you pay a premium for bluetooth tethering through your cell phone plan, then you can pair it, but otherwise you must use the USB for this. Things like traffic, stocks, weather need the internet. Plus as you mentioned full pandora integration. Sounds like your salesman didn't do a great job of explaining it.
It took me 5 minutes the other day to cancel a GPS route guidance; instead, the CANCEL button should be huge and prominently displayed whenever you're using GPS guidance. I missed being able to use the voice recognition system to say "Suspend Guidance" like in my 2005 Prius. There is a few things I miss about my 2005 Prius's voice recognition program. I also miss the calendar oddly enough I wish I had one earlier today. I also miss having the defroster and auto A/C button on the steering wheel. Don't even get me started on the map button in the steering wheel.
Jailbroken last weekend using Absynthe which now supports 5.1.1 and am successfully tethering to Prius with my iPhone 4S using TetherMe ($4.99 - One time, NOT per month).
Pacohaas - I just Jailbroke my iPhone 5.1.1 as well. You need to select developer under Cydia for the app to be able to be seen. It works good. However I was also hoping to see the bluetooth music features to come back as well. integration with the emails and text messages would be nice too
bluetooth music works just fine for me and others, you might have to disconnect and reconnect or something. text message and emails would require an OS level update (from Apple), from what I understand.
I can understand your frustations. In car units need lot more processing power and should not lag so much. My ipad 3 has very high resolution, can run multiple apps, and is under $500. Toyota should atleast use a good Nvidia tegra chip and a soild android build (sorry apple will not sell its a5x). They charge thousands of dollars for these options and any kind of lag is simply not acceptable in 2012. $30/ unit saving is simply stupid. It makes them look bad and they really do not save any considerable amount of money. Load it up with fast cpus, high end screens, and soild software. Happy customers will sell all the options for toyota and in the end they will make more cash.
Are you saying that the Bluetooth system in the C works differently than in the regular Prius? I have never had a car with bluetooth and I am looking forward to being able to have bluetooth enabled and just climb into the car and start using it. It sounds like I would have to take out the iphone and do some interaction with the phone to make it work before I could make a call. Do you have to do that with the system in the regular Prius?
No, Bluetooth is just fine and reconnects automatically and everything. Entune apps other than maps are what you might need to plug in for.
Read on the Toyota Nation Camry forum that Entune version 2.1.0 is out for the 2012 Camry with the Display Audio system. This is the update that includes iHeartradio, Opentable, etc. Apparently, Camry owners will be mailed a USB stick with instructions for a DIY upgrade. Hopefully, this will apply to C owners as well.
my dealer just emailed me and he got a usb stick with the update, but no printed instructions... thinks we should be getting one in the mail soon....
I Tweeted Toyota Customer care and they replied with this: @ToyotaCustCare: crebble All Display Audio owners will get USB stick w/ apps via mail soon may appear on phone now but not active till USB stick uploaded^GT
from Twin City Toyota's Service Manager.... Roger, you have had the update per TSB 0026-12, I am familiar with that TSB. The newest TSB will be released tomorrow morning , 6/30. It's number is TSB 0093-12. I have the flash drive here now but no information as to applicability. No dealer has access to this information yet. Brett
Just got the email from Toyota: "We are very pleased to announce that in the coming weeks, you will be receiving an upgrade for your Entune system. This upgrade will be delivered (via US mail) at no cost to you and will provide three new applications for your Entune equipped vehicle: iHeartRadio, MovieTickets.comā¢ and OpenTableĀ®. In addition, the upgrade will add voice recognition capability for all of your Entune apps, making the use of Entune easier than ever!"
