Is this a fixed mileage display or a oil life monitor similar to what the GMs have? The GMs have a complex formula factoring in mileage, time, driving condition, load, trip length, etc.
Fixed mileage I believe, there is no oil life monitoring system like GM has that I am aware of. Posted from my iPhone via the Tapatalk app.
Ahh, that's a shame. The GM system really cuts down on unnecessary oil changes and has been confirmed many times over by used oil analysis.
Yeah I know what you mean. It is even worse that the maintenance screen comes on at 5,000 miles but our interval is 10,000 miles for most in the US. The good thing is it is super easy to reset. Posted from my iPhone via the Tapatalk app.
Hate to hijack this thread, but I have a Chevy Colorado. Should I trust the oil change warning even if I'm getting up around 6k miles or past since the last oil change?
According to everything I have read on bobistheoilguy.com, an oil and maintenance forum, yes. Plenty of members have run the OLM down to 5%, then changed the oil and had their used oil samples analysed by a lab to confirm the oil still had plenty of safety margin left. The point is that someone that does easy long highway miles does not need an oil change at the same interval as one that does short trips / city miles, even both fall under the "normal" operating condition. The highway guy can have longer intervals, to save $ and resources.
As far as I can tell, there's no problem doing that. We've put the last 70,000 miles on a 2002 Chevy Venture (bringing it to 124,000 miles) changing the oil by the light with no problems. Maybe 1/2 a quart down at ~7,000 miles.
