Energy Saver A/S to be replaced by Defender

    It is being discontinued for certain sizes, but the 195/65/15" was one sizes mentioned (in an earlier post, I believe).

    I have an appt at 3 pm in Dublin for a new set of tires for my car! I have a swim meet to attend in the morning and then I'll (eventually) be off to get my tires. Warm weather = yum. My current tank (after getting back from my parent's house) is sitting at 69.4 mpg after 615 miles or so. It will be interesting to see what the new tires will do.

    I'm scared that your tank may drop because the other tires are so new compared to your worn out shoes. Still, most people observe a gain even when going from old to new. You should be in good shape. I'm eager to hear your thoughts after a bit of driving. Shoot me a text or something. Unless you're mad. LOL

    I found that video very frustrating: afaik they don't specify what the other tires are.

    I got my Energy Saver A/S today, UPS delivered to my house. I got a garage about 3 mile from the house going to put them on in the morning. I'm also going to have to fill up with gas tomorrow, so will let you know about MPG increase. Its reading 53 right now with over 500 miles on tank. That is about what I been averaging by readout the last few tanks.

    If possible could you please have the shop measure tread depth on your old tires before the swap? You will usually see a mpg loss whe swapping to new tires from worn tires but the Energy Saver A/S seem to defy that trend so even if you don't see an immediate gain you likely will not see a loss. This means they are still more efficient and just need to break in.

    The old tires could have went 5 k further, they had 4/32 tread left, 47,415 miles on old tires. The guy only charged me $40 to put them on and balance. This is in a rural area, gave him a tip for doing it, that was too cheap. The ride seems a little smoother. Its too early to tell about gas mileage. The wife drives 80 mile a day to work and back, then we put lots of miles on weekends. We have been driving approximately 750 mile a week average, have had car 16 months.

    I replaced the original Yoko Avid tires when they had over 10,000 miles on them
    so they were well broken in. I than installed 4 Michelin Energy Saver tires and
    immediately noticed a 2-3 mpg increase.... over the well broke in Yoko Avid tires.....

    Got 150mile on energy savers so far, mpg dropped to 51.5 mpg

    Odd. Let's get a few tanks on them and see if your average drops. Makes sure and take account of any weather changes or AC use changes. You did verify they were the A/S and not the summer tires right?

    I was driving today, trying to get mpgs up from my wife's heavy foot. We had close to 450 mile and I noticed that car had been taken out of ECO mode, probably grand kids messing with buttons. It is on the rise now with 475 miles on this tank, last reading, reading is 51.9 and on the rise. I usually never take out of ECO mode.

    We are on our 2nd tank of gas and so far no better mileage, and yes the tires are A/S.
    Still not getting the mpg on Energy Saver A/S that I was getting on the worn out Yokahoma tires. There seems to be about 1.5 mpg drop in my wifes style of driving. The first tank was 52.0 readout, this next tank looks closer to 51.1 with about 300 miles driven. She was getting around 53 before new tires were put on. I'm running 42-40 air pressure. I though maybe cause it had got switched to Normal mode was reason for drop but wasn't due to that.

    Interesting. Give it about 1,000miles to ensure they are 100% broken in. Have you ruled out any environmental differences? New tires almost always drop mpg because they are simply not as efficient as old worn tires (worn tires may exhibit 20% less rolling restance than the same model tire when new). I would still have expected you to at least break even until the ESAS broke in then they would be better.

    I don't find any difference in mileage, between ECO and Normal. The main impression I have of ECO, it takes an inordinate amount of pedal depression to get a decent reaction. At the end of the day I think you can get the same results in either mode.

    Eco mode also changes how the A/C system works, suppose to help a little in mpg.

    The worn out S33 are going to deliver significantly better mileage than a new set of the Energy Saver A/S, so your results are not surprising.
