    hi all

I am ready to upgrade all 4 speakers this weekend, do I need to Disconnect the Negative from Battery before I open door panel and disconnect speaker wire from speaker?

In an unprofessional opinion....If you have to ask if you need to disconnect something to disconnect another thing or connect another thing....you probably need a pro to do it.

However if you are stuck on DIY then I would say yes....no use in shocking yourself or causing electircal damage to something you aren't sure about

All 4 speakers? You have at least six if not eight (JBL).

The speaker disconnection itself doesn't use 12V, but since you may encounter the door locks and power windows in removing the door panels, battery disconnection is always a good precaution.

When you re-connect the battery, you may get a "Hybrid System Error" message. And you'll completely freak. Just power the car off and on three times, and the message will clear.

There's no reason to disconnect the battery. Not even if you're installing a new head unit... I think Spiderman has a good writeup on the install.

If there was just one thing I could do to upgrade the 10's sound,,, it would be to replace the dash squakers. That made a huge impact in my ears.

Just 4 of the 6, got it. Not a bad plan actually.
Have you considered a digital processor or one of the items in the "factory sysytems upgrade" section at Crutchfiled?
Was looking around there a bit and it seems that with all of the new factory head units with big displays and steering wheel controls these baby's really make sense for the DIY person.
All the controls seem to remain but results in better sound.
If the speakers are relatively close to original size (physically) it should be pretty easy.

Good luck and please post your results.

Are the Crutchfield specs/recommendations pretty accurate? After reading on here it appears that its not all to easy to just buy some speakers and install them, im not sure if I should believe their site or not

Crutchfield is a good place to deal with.
The speaker info that they have is probably stock info from Toyota.
All of there speakers do show dimensional specs from the manufacturer.
Their information has only gotten more detailed over the years and in general the customer service is excellant. Email them.
    Ask them questions.
That's what they are there for.
Get a dialog going with someone there until you find out what you need to know.

did you replace the dash spuakers?, if you did, did you make a lot modify for dash squakers? believe me I would like to upgrade a lot things for my Prius III 2010, but one thing that I would like to have is plug and play, because this car is mostly is electric, messing around too much, and you know what:)).

Would a set of component speakers work to replace the factory squakers?

Why yes I did, follow the A/V upgrade link in my signature. There is a link in the first post of the thread that covers the squakers replacement (document). It wasn't too bad in terms of work. Just a little trimming of the inside dash and a minor wiring task. Easy to moderate modification.

[edit] well the document link was funky since the site upgrade so here is the link to the document.

Well sure, in fact there have been a few members that have done so. One member replaced the squaker with a tweeter component.
I used a two-way coaxial 3.5" pioneer and I really like them. Puts the sound stage more in your face instead of at your knees (and muffled).

Just noticed that you have model III w/JBL... that makes things a little more interesting. The squakers in your model (2 ohms I believe) are different from mine (4 ohms). You need to make sure to get the proper speakers. There are other members that have upgraded the JBL system. If I come across those threads I will post em.

    Spiderman,

Thanks, I really want to know if there is a direct replacement for squakers and Jbl amp., for the door speaker I replace them with 9632cf and 6032si from Infiniti.

keep me posted on if you change out your stuff, i may take your factory JBL off your hands

Dumb question, but what is the difference between a squawker and a tweeter? I just assumed they were the same till now. I went and reviewed the pdf's you posted on the change out, damn good job. It will be a great help when I get ll the equipment. Can you share any info on your sub & amp set up? I am debating on changing speakers or just installed a sub......
