I only have about 1800 miles on the Yokohama tires that came on my 2012, but I'd like to switch them out for something quieter. I've read all of the tire threads here, and I'm still having a hard time deciding. o_O

The largest considerations for me are noise, handling on wet pavement (I live in Portland), and fuel economy. Tread wear is not as important.

I think I've narrowed it down to these three, and maybe in this order:
    1) Bridgestone Ecopia EP422
    2) Michelin Energy Saver A/S
    3) Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max

If you were choosing between these three tires, which would you choose and why? Or would you go a different direction entirely?

Only from those same threads probably I would pick the Michelin Energy Saver A/S. the question is can you find them?

I had the same feeling on Yokohamas: it felt that the car has wooden wheels and they feel every crack in the pavement and were pretty noisy. Spending 2.5 hours a day in the car it was not good. Unlike you I was ready to sacrifice fuel efficiency. Replaced them to Hancook Optimo 727 - what a difference. The car is now quiet, almost like Camry, smooth, you feel great grip on wet pavement and ice (Maine). I may have lost percentage of fuel efficiency (from 52.3 mpg to 51+) but I am not sure if it is because of tires, since I changed my driving style a bit. For me -it was a great choice. However, I am not recommending you these tires if you are absolutely evangelical about saving the planet and sacrifice your personal comfort for a drop of gas. If still interested -- check these tires: they are listed as one of the best by Consumer Reports:

    Hankook Optimo H727

I'm not totally evangelical regarding fuel economy. I'm getting an average of around 54 - 55 MPG now, with some trips up into the 60's. I like bragging to my friends, but it's not my chief concern.

I listed my criteria in order: noise, handling on wet pavement, fuel economy, tread wear.

I'll take a look at the Hankooks. Thanks for the suggestion!

Ditch #1 and #3. They are not rated very well for wet traction or wear.

    #1 Continental ProContact with EcoPlus
    #2 Energy Saver A/S
    #3 Michelin Defender

I'm not 100% sure about the noise with the ProContact but the wet traction is outstanding as is treadwear and mpg is decent.

What do you think about the Michelin Primacy MXV4?

Actually, never mind re: MXV4. I ordered the Energy Savers and should have them Monday. Thanks everyone for your help!

Energy Savers on - apparently they had them in stock.

Wow! It's so quiet! I can actually hear myself think. :D

And the mileage drop, if any?

They got you the Energy Saver A/S and not the Energy Saver, I hope?

They did. I was adamant. I'm curious about what would have been different, though? Other than the price. And the tread wear.

Too soon to tell. I drove for maybe 60 miles yesterday, and it seemed about the same. The car reported 57.4 MPG for the longest leg.

I guess it's good you went with the Michelins. I wish I would have seen this thread earlier.

I used to sell toyotas and sold the Prius as a Prius specialist (Which I finally now own one) And by far no matter what and even on other hybrids, like the camry and the highlander.... The Michelin was the quietest, fastest stopping and best for gas mileage tires. Good choice sir!

I favor the Primacy tires from Michelin.

The Primacy MXV4 were great for everything except fuel economy.

That's good enough to say little to no effect on mileage.

Not without accounting for any other variables. She didn't say anything that would indicate real testing so we cannot assume anything. :)

The plot grows thicker as well. The Place (which shall remain nameless) said they were putting on Energy Saver A/S. They charged me for A/S. The work order said A/S. I was in a hurry, and believed them (that will teach me). I got home, looked at the sidewall, and found NON-A/S. By that time The Place was closed, and they are not open on Sunday.

I debated what to do. I might have just left the summer tires on, except I live on a hill and sometimes we do get snow, even when the valley just has rain. Reading some of the reviews I found in various places convinced me that this just might not be the best tire for me, and I'd be more comfortable with the all-season version. That being said, the summer version rides and handles great.

So, this morning I called The Place and they checked their records. Sure enough, they put the wrong tires on and The Guy at The Place admitted it. There followed the Great Tire Hunt. Energy Saver A/S could not be found. Continental ProContact - ditto. Michelin Defenders were not yet released in 195/65/15. I was about to give up and just keep the tires, when The Guy from The Place called and said he'd located a set of A/S in another state, they were on their way, and as soon as they get here The Place will swap the non-A/S tires out for the A/S, at no charge to me.

Then I'll be able to do some real testing.

In the mean time, I'll keep track of my daily commute - which is the largest part of my normal driving - and I'll report back how the summer tires do. There may be sun belt residents who are interested.

    Nice catch!

I'm glad they found the tires for you. The Energy Saver summer tires are just not as economical so I wouldn't have kept them either.

BTW, as I was poking around looking at tires, I watched a video on Youtube about the Defender. A woman from Michelin said that the Defender will replace Harmony and HydroEdge, so perhaps the Energy Saver A/S will become available again.
