Okay, newbie question. How do you get to that screen?

It is the 'Past record' screen and you get there by pressing the 'disp' (display) button on your steering wheel. It displays the best three MPG listings from your last 100 segments. It does this automatically in the 'ODO' mode and records the results each time you reset the 'A' or 'B' trip meters.

Just curious. What is the average speed for those trips? My personal best for 22 mile commute is 67 MPG and the average speed is 40 MPH.

Uh, yojo's photo is probably not one that reflects a true mpg value. I am not casting aspersions, just sayin'. Anyone can publish the ODO 'since start' number and mske it appear that something extraordinary has happened. Now, it is possible that he/she drove the initial 49 miles on the car's odometer and garnered the stated mpg, but the photo could also not be representative. I waas looking for photo evidence that could not be misrepresentative (short of photoshopping).

Look at this and you'll see what I am saying:

    IMG_3120 (800x418).jpg

I drove around the block in ev mode and the above was the result. (Sorry about the photo quality). Anytime you start the car and then turn it off, the 'odo, since start' information gives the mpg for that segment ONLY. Other information screens and the trip meter displays that give mpg readings that may not be misinterpreted are what I was looking for in this thread.

    Thanks.

My average speeds for the photo I posted were probably in the 25-35 mph area.

I am finding it very difficult to break the 40MPG barrier in this car. I regularly would get 55 in my 2010 Prius, but in the C my commute to and from work is in the 30 MPG range and that is driven more conservatively than I ever drove the 2010. I am hoping this is due to the fact it is not yet broken in - but at 500 miles now I am starting to get a little concerned.

Wow. If memory serves, it's pretty flat around Des Moines. Find a flat road where you can put your car in cruise and run a few miles at 55-60 mph. Check to make sure you've got at least the recommended psi in your tires. If you aren't getting over 50 mpg, I would be concerned enough to consult/insult the dealer. While Prii are very reliable cars, it is not unheard of that a drive battery is not up to snuff from the get-go.

Im going to give it some time to allow tires and engine to break in - but I am feeling like I should be getting better than I am. I was able to hypermile my 2006 Scion XB (Aerodynamics of a giant brick) to about 42MPG on a 420 mile trip on 1 tank of gas. That was the same 1NZFE engine that is in the Prius C (minus the HSD of course). My tires are at the Max listed safe PSI, and I am driving very conservatively - and on my 8 mile 1 way commute to work I think I should be getting better then Mid to low 30's even if it is mostly interstate at 65 MPH.

There are, at present, 112 Prii c reporting at Fuelly.com.

2012 Toyota Prius C MPG Reports | Fuelly

Spanky (not Sparky) has the lowest of all and he's reporting 38.8 mpg over 2000+ miles. Unless your foot is in it all the time, I think you might have a problem. Sorry, but considering your experience with the other cars and your MPG reports, I'd recommend taking it in and having it thoroughly checked. Good luck.

Actually, I've been coerced by abysmally stupid politicians and enviro-crazies to make choices I'd rather not make.

I prefer to make the best of this situation. :)

If you drive too conservatively (mostly EV) you are hurting your mileage. Drive it like a "normal" car for a while. Very different techniques to hypermilling an ICE only car, a hybrid car, and an EV car.

So far my mpg picture thread has one legitimate picture. Is there any way to delete an entire thread outside of annoying a moderator? :) I am embarrassed at the lack of interest.
