I was wondering if the new noise maker means they turned off that "cabin" beep nonsense when in "R"?

Also, I would be interested if anyone is planning to do 'the forbidden experiment' and run out of gas (with a spare can.) With our ZVW30, the ONLY indication that the last of the gas is gone is the 'power flow' arrows disappear. I'm wondering if Toyota might have brought back something to let the driver know the last of the gas is gone.

    Thanks,
    Bob Wilson

    No beep in reverse.

And here's a thread someone made when they ran out of gas. Be prepared to read the expected argument about whether it was The Worst Idea Ever or Not A Big Deal: Running on Empty....... | PriusChat

Nope, at least on the regular Hatchback (I can't answer for the 'c'). Despite the spaceship noisemaker, it still has the cabin reverse beeper.

i think you're confused everybody. there is still a backup interior beep unless you have the dealer shut it off. and the noisemaker is to warn pedestrians whilst traveling at low speed when the ice is off. and it's still the same 'ol crummy single beep and last blinking pip low gas warning. and no warning that you are going to run out of gas.

The c does not have the beep when you put it in reverse. The liftback and the plug-in may, but the c does not. Since we are in the c subforum, I thought it safe to assume the OP was asking about the c specifically.

I figured that assumption was inconsistent with Bob's wording, asking whether it had been turned off. The liftback is the only one that has been around long enough to have experienced changes such as turning something off.

I was interested in the Prius c and whether or not the cabin "beep" found in other Prius was still there when selecting "R."

I'd already had the "beep-beep" configured for a single "beep" in my wife's Prius three years ago. The irony is my 2003 has a beeping backup light I installed which is exactly what makes sense. Except one early experiment showed it had little or no effect on at least one pedestrian's behavior.

Both the Gen I and Prius C have "conventional" style shift levers (PRNDB) that the driver can tell what gear is selected by sight & feel, as well at the display. With the joystick shifter on the G2, G3, V, & PIP, the lever always returns to home position, and it may not be as easy for the driver to determine what gear is engaged. The interior reverse beeper is likely there for this reason, on models with the joystick shifter. The C doesn't have or need one.

How did you have it reconfigured to a single "beep". Did the do it at the dealership or can I do it?

The dealer can do it, mine provided a sheet with all the settings they will customize. Or you can do it with some aftermarket engine monitors such as ScanGauge-II.
