emailed trs to express my support for wick1ert's project. got a different response:

Thanks for the inquiry and thank you for you patience while waiting for a response. The RX350 projector is going to be a direct bolt-on projector for your 2012 Prius. We do not have a specific kit for the Prius just yet but we are working on one that should be available soon. All you will need is the RX350 projectors and a D2S Elite HID Kit with an H11 relay harness. You can find both of these items in the following links:

VIP Projectors - HID Projectors from The Retrofit Source Inc
D2S: Morimoto Elite HID System - HID Component Kits from The Retrofit Source Inc

Please let us know if we can be of any additional assistance."

its getting pricey with all those parts so far. and then retro quk system too?

You can do the RX350s or wait for the Retro-Quik. You only need one or the other. I veered away from the RX350 because cost was getting to like $500 for it. Their Retro-Quik run around $300 on their website, which is a significant price difference.

So their swapping out a halogen projector for another halogen projector????

Sorry bit this doesn't make any sence......if ur going through all the trouble to open the headlight to do a retro u might as well use a HID projector otherwise ur just wasting ur time.

That's for a pair. But you'd also have to get the bulbs for them, as I believe they may use a different bulb. If you have to add on the HID kit from them, you add another good chunk of money.

Gotcha. They might be willing to try to make a kit for something like that, but considering they said there wasn't much demand for a Prius application as it is, I'm just glad we'll have an option that isn't going to cost an arm and leg that'll still give us better light output than the factory projectors do.

Then they run into the space issue, how much work for the end user, etc.

I think their Retro-Quik system is either H1 or D2S and that's it.

This is probably the #1 reason that they won't use any other projector.

I'm just waiting for my JDM headlights to arrive so I can see if I can retro in a S2K or FX-R.......maybe the RX will be an option.

Probably true. I wish I was closer to Atlanta, because I'd go visit the shop and learn as much about these as possible. Unfortunately, that's a 12 hour drive. Sometimes you never really know exactly what all the reasons are behind the decision. It very well could be space, cost, demand, etc. all coupled together. Plus, the retro-quik don't require any modification to the headlights, and I'm guessing that's a big factor as to using the H1/D2S Minis.

Do you have a link to the JDM headlights? Are they that different from the US ones?

The Mini H1 projector is darn good for the money. I wouldn't bother with the Mini D2S.

There are only 2 major differences between the JDM vs US headlights

    1) the cutoff is reversed
    2) white reflector

I'm getting them for the reflector since I'm going to do a retro.

I got them off of Japan yahoo auctions.

Will do it tomorrow night. My lights can be adjusted up or down with a rotary switch below the steering wheel. I don't know if you have that in UK. (?)

In order for the switch to work, you need to have a motor for the manual level control usually attached to the headlight housing. I don't know if your JDM headlights came with it. Most OEM HID headlighrs from toyota that does not have the auto level control will always have a manual level control using the rotary switch.

Yes, they have the motor on the back of both headlights plus I still have my gen2 JDM lightd that have the motors. I have a level switch from a Solara but it doesn't fit in any of the blanks......its too big.

    HID high beam-sml.jpg 5-1Low Beam sml.JPG
    Hi Zhutton,
I'm attaching some pics. The low beam was set to 5. The high was set to 2. I use HID for high beam too. The response time isn't much of an issue for me where I live but if I lived in a more built up area I wouldn't use HID for high beam as they woudl need to be switched too often.

Why do you need a relay? are you using 35 watt lights?
