I've tried for as long as I feel like trying today to get a StartupImage and a DisplayImageOff loaded into the Nav system with no success.

The folders have to be named the way I've named them, and the images are JPG as it says in the FM. There must be something else I'm missing like having one foot on the brake and the other out the window. Maybe it can't be plugged in and charging.

    Who knows.

Has anyone gotten the custom images bit to work?

I've also tried resizing them to 800x480 and that doesn't work either.

If I can't figure it out, I'll take the drive in when I go for first service. I'm sure someone at the dealership will be able to figure it out (ha-ha!), but if not, they'll have to make a ticket for it. If Toyota puts customization features out there, they should support it in their service depts. We'll see.

Thanks. That worked. I have the Advance package with the HHD navigation and you would think that it can hold more than three pictures! I guess it's better than nothing. Now to fire up Photoshop...

Named the folders exactly as described in the manual and in the post referred to.

    Made the pics jpeg.

Still doesn't work for me. I reformatted the usb key to MS-DOS FAT and the system still won't copy the files.

I'd have a photo like this at startup.

If I could just get the system to accept a jpeg, I'd use it! LOL

When some of you get this to work, I would like to see a picture of what you are seeing.

Here's a screen dump of the USB drive's directory structure. I also included a test screen of the "screen off" display. And no, the radio can't surf the web; it's just a screen dump!

PS. For the Advanced package radio, the picture should be cropped to be in the ratio of 800x480. I don't know what the native resolution is but the other posts said to use 800x480. I tried 8" x 4.8" in Photoshop and it worked. If the resolution is 800x480, there's no reason to not size it on your computer 1st. The smaller size will let it transfer to the radio faster.

That's a great photo. But since it's a Japanese car, I might use this shot of cherry blossoms in Tokyo.

I was able to transfer the Startup and Screen Off images following the directions.

The Startup image worked, although it's hardly up long enough to be worth the effort.

When turning off, the screen still just goes black, even though another image is selected.

It's pretty dumb. You have to select it AND click save for it to work.

On the setup screen for Screen Off images, my image, in the lower right corner of the four images, is highlighted.

I hit Save and Save again (which doesn't change anything because it was already saved.)

Then I hit the Power button and the screen just goes dark.

Is that not when the Screen Off image displays?

I use 640x480 resolution in JPG format (not jpeg) and the file size is about 100 KB each.
    This works fine.
The other site says that the jpeg format should work too.

I think the screen off means, you have to press SETUP button, then select DISPLAY and press SCREEN OFF. This is a dark screen while you are driving not when you turn the motor off.

What was it about the PC that you think made the difference?

Format of the USB drive maybe? A jpg is a jpg is a jpg. They're platform independent.

I agree. I tried deleting the default Toyota logo image with no luck. Since that image shows up first the other image loaded doesn't really stay on long enough to make a difference.:(
