So last night as I parked my car and got out and opened the back doors to get my 2 daughters out of their child seats I had a big difficulty seeing much. I struggled to get them out and to find their shoes and toys on the floor. I pretty much picked them up blindly. The front map light was on but I found them to be very weak and pretty much useless for the rear passengers. I wished the car came with a rear map light as well. Just wanted to make a note of this, if you ride alone or with a passenger in front you probably never thought of this, but really if you have kids or passengers in back the front map lights don’t do anything for the rear at nights.
I was just discussing this last night with my parents. My old Yaris had a dome light, why not on the C? If you look on the accessory page for the Japenese models, they have little lights that clip onto the B-pillar as an option.
I agree. I drove mine in the dark for the first time just the other evening. The missing dome light and the pitiful side light in the rear cargo area are really annoying. There are a couple of other things that irk me too, like the miniature sun visors (you'd think they'd extend or something), no beep when you double click to lock the doors and lack of lane change signal. Doesn't seem like those things would be that expensive as standard items. I love my c and I'm not trying to knit pick. I realize after all, it is an economy car, but sheesh, give me a break... Deb
Yeah I agree on the visors as well. They are way too tiny and pretty much useless when the sun hits from the left side. A little extension on the visors would have made a big difference and I can’t imagine that would have been too costly. As far as the Beeping the C3 and 4 have the beep for lock and unlock C1 and C2 doesn’t, but I do agree it should have been standard on all. Not sure what the Lane change signal is you are refereeing to? Like a warning signal (Blind spot monitoring system)?
there was a thread on the modifications forum that shows how to change the map lights to LED lights. I did it...it was super easy to do and the lighting is MUCH better. Check it out...
Yup very easy....and huge brightness difference -M http://priuschat.com/forums/prius-c...-installation-adventure-thread-lots-pics.html
I'll try to describe it... The lane change signal is a turn signal feature for changing lanes. It gets your hand back on the wheel faster. Instead of holding the turn signal for a couple of flashes (with out engaging it) you just partially engage it once and release it. The turn signal will flash 3 times, indicating you are changing lanes. Now time for me to check out the thread on the LED lights. Deb
As long as we are saying the little things...I don't like that it only has one cup holder in the back. Unless I have missed the other one somewhere? Still love this car though!!
brighter LED dome lights in the front helps.... like... insignificantly.. i just added my own LEDs and wired it up to the front dome lights.
Did you add a fixture to the back ceiling? If so, how did you run the wiring... through the headliner? Or did you replace the map lights fixture with a LED fixture in their mount area up front? Sorry if you have already posted a Mod somewhere. Deb
nah.. i just cut some little led strips into a small piece.. added some to the cupholders (since there was some lack of lighting there at night...) as well as putting some on the b-pillars. i haven't posted any pictures of either mod yet.. so you didn't miss anything. the wiring for the cupholder leds, i just tapped from the wires that go to the bulb that lights up the shifter area.. that circuit is run on the illumination stuff.. so it's also dimmable with the rest of the illumination lighting. the b-pillars, i went to the interior light circuit.. which is the dome light.
They help but don't expect miracles. Your still going to get better results by wirin additional lights in the back.
not really - i've get leds and while they are brighter for the front, the back is still dark. i hate that about the car. i'd like to add some more lighting too in the back but i don't know how to "tap dome lights"
had another question - can you tap dome lights 'more than once'? i don't know anything about wiring/cars, so sorry for the ignorance... if anyone has any pictures/instructions on how to tap the dome lights and how to run the wires, that'd be really appreciated. ideally, if it wasn't that hard, i'd want to add illuminated rear light, footwell lights and door sills.
