Fuel Prices Fall

It's a bit odd (normal really) that the pricer per barrel of oil has dropped to under $95 and now the prices per gallon around the Indy area just jumped up again to just under $4!

 

Any explanation locally on why your prices are rising? That doesn't make much sense.

 

When does summer blend hit the street? That might explain a price shift. They usually charge more for it, but it usually gets slightly better economy.

 

I think EPA requires the switch for the country to be done by June 1. Those moving late are partially responsible for the price around memorial day. California and Texas are already on summer blends, but it varies by locality.

lol. This time that is a little correct. The european financial crisis means less european demand for oil, which makes the Iranian crisis look less risky.

 

I'm not sure how, but we're around 3.65/gal at the Shell station I pass daily. Usually BJs is roughly 5-8 cents cheaper, so should be under 3.60/gal already (it was 3.63 last week). Depending upon whether I need to get anything at BJs or am in the area otherwise, depends upon if I fill up there or at the Shell (I wait for 5 cents off Thursdays whenever I can). Prices have dropped roughly 20 cents over the last month.

 

First trip back from Saudi in late 1970's I went out and got a Rabbit Diesel, moral imperative of war and all that. US went on a pro-Exxon, pro-Saudi oil policy binge the next 12 years and I figured what the heck, why be a human sacrifice and bought a Blazer.

Nothing really changed over the last 30 years, US still on the same pro-Exxon, pro-Saudi oil path but I figure I'll cut my own fuel use and carbon output, demonstrate that it's easy to meet the necessary goals of cutting US oil use by 50% and cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050.

US will never do it unless forced to by an economic crash caused by the $10T and climbing oil trade deficit burden and the $14T and rising debt from 30 years of oil wars.

So we are doing the right thing, sacrificing to cut oil use, cut emissions even if it won't help US. Canadian couple had it right with this thread.
