HID cutoff not as good as I thought?

I believe the non-AFL RX projectors are the better of the RX's

 

Anybody with HID retrofit kit notice any ground shadow caused by the ground return wire? Xenon Supply has a description of what I mean. Check out their section on kits specifically made for Prius.

If it's there, is it really noticeable or is it subtle?

 

Look at the pictures Tideland Prius posted in post#53. He is concentrating on the bow out at the far left and far right edges but I'm looking at the 2 darker strips on the ground immediately in front of the Prius. These are the ground return wire shadows, each strip corresponding to each projector. Is it really that noticeable as seen on the pictures or does the picture exaggerate it? Which HID kit did you use?

I just ordered the morimoto H11 bulbs so I'll be able to confirm when I get them. Already have my Denso ballasts installed & ready to go. Still looking for a cheap light to test for a retro.

 

The pictures I posted earlier are using Morimoto bulbs, albeit in a 2010 not 2012. I don't notice any ground wire shadow on them, which is odd, because I used to wonder what that was with the DDM bulbs and now I know lol.

I do have my 2 extra headlights now, just gotta get caught up on stuff and feeling better before I start working on retrofit options.

Can you take a picture when it's night time? Looks like the pictures you took were at dusk. Hard to tell around that time.

 

I will try to get one this weekend. I didn't forget, just got some sort of stomach bug or food poisoning late saturday/early sunday, so I've been in "recovery" most of the week and just not doing that much.

 

Got my morimoto bulbs yesterday. Installed them & the gnd wire is at the top which is projected onto the ground in fnt of the car. I will take a pic tonight......in the meantime I have a email to Matt at TRS asking bout this issue.

 

Talked to andrew about it before but he seems to have no knowledge about any problem with the return ground wire shadow from previous customers with their H11 bulbs. I think it would be good for you to call him too.

I'm anxious to see what the morimoto bulb shadows look like. I was considering getting the kit from TRS but I have to see how bad the shadow is. Xenon Supply has a kit specifically made for the Prius that addresses the ground return wire shadow issue. I'm considering getting that kit but unsure of the quality of their kit.

 

There is no such thing as a kit specifically for the Prius. It uses a standard H11 halogen bulb so who ever is selling u that line is full of it. Every rebased bulb I have ever used has had the ground wire sitting on tge bottom when installed. The morimoto bile are the 1st where its at the top.

You may be right but Xenon Supply has a kit that specifically states that the ground wire will be at the bottom when installed. I heard nothing but good stuff about Morimoto stuff but the ground shadow issue will annoy me and I know I'll focus on it when I'm driving. I think I'll get the Xenon Supply stuff just to avoid the ground shadow issue.
