You must be reading old news. With higher gas prices, the organizations you cite have shown the Prius to have a positive payback in around three years, looking only at gas savings.

If you look at total cost of ownership, Consumer Reports rated the Prius as the least expensive vehicle to own and operate.

Hey you never know when that commie pinko long haired dope fiend Jesus will show up and they'll have to shoot him to prevent him high jacking the church.

The ironic part is the pistol packing gun nuts have to be armed because they are afraid of all the pistol packing gun nuts.

Really, are the majority on here as hostile as you and Ed are towards conservatives?

Do conservatives need to go to a different forum altogether because those who have a different viewpoint cannot even stand to share the same virtual space?

The behaviors I am witnessing here are as kind and hospitable as a skunk with late-stage rabies.

What's "conservative" about packing a deadly weapon in a church? It's flaming nutso.

Can't help you there. Go find a conservative and ask them. Evolution, heliocentric universe, science and technology in general tend to give right wingers cognitive dissonance headaches and Prius fits into that disturbing pattern.

Or you could ask the moderators if you can bring your lethal weapons to the Prius Chat Forum.

Notice you don't see too much of the tree hugging liberal Prius drivers harassing the other drivers on the road, its the "Guns, God and Guts" bumper sticker crowd who are the Prius hating tailgaters.

I read recently that people who carry guns are more likely to think someone else is carrying a gun. Self justification.

I'll jump right on asking them to get me a gun-totin' smiley--NOT.

For such a peaceful individual, you sure demonstrate a whole lot of hate.

I think there are driving idiosyncrasies in every state. From my observations of 35+ years of driving on the East Coast:

Maine: 2 miles below the speed limit on 2 lane roads is normal. When the out of state traveler tries to pass, speed up for all your worth to try to prevent them from passing you.

NY: Don't ever let anyone driving in the far left lane pass you when you are driving in the lane immediately to the right. I have taken this observation up to 90 mph, but they won't let you pass.

MD: Frequent high speed, close passing on both the left and the right. MD drivers seem to think that if you don't drive fast in the left lane, the cops will never catch you. A MD State Trooper told me the easiest way to find a speeder is to see who is moving left and right through traffic. You can see them miles away.

VA: Go the exact speed limit in the left lane. When someone comes up behind you and tries to pass on the right, speed up and don't let them pass. If they do, regardless of the speed you are finally going (70, 80 mph) tailgate that person like they are now slowing you down.

GA: People in GA tend to fastidiously go the speed limit, at least in populated areas, since the local constabulary is very effective at catching speeders. Of course, on the highways, all bets are off. I listen to Atlanta traffic each morning, and there is always a road closed during morning rush due to some hellacious accident.

Anyway, my two cents. People are characters. Just learn to live with the meshegas (craziness.)

I'd say someone going to church with a lethal weapon planning to shoot someone is pegging the hate-o-meter and also the psych boundaries.

Did I say I was a "peaceful individual"? Prius owners are oil warriors. We take on the "Guns, God and Guts" oil junkies in their lifted pick-ups with gun racks.

Some people have redwood sized chips on their shoulders about anything conservative. I suppose its only natural there should be some of them here on PC. They sound similar to the hate filled drivers that don't like Prius drivers. Only their flags are different. Take them out of their cars and they'd get in a fight about something else.

The anomosity I see on the road is only the issue with drivers impeding the flow of traffic. If it isn't you it would be the next guy in the way. But really, unless you both pull over and talk about it, how will you know whether the problem is your Prius or something else.

I sure am glad I do not drive where you folks drive. I pass about as many vehicles as pass me, farm equipment, mostly.

It does occur to me that since MS has the lowest Prius population in the US, 1 driver in 1400, perhaps they don't know I have a Prius?

I just searched Google Images, nowhere in the first 21 pages do they show what a Prius look like from above, from the back, the 4x4 drivers behind me may not know.

    http://www.toyota.com/prius-hybrid/exterior-360.html

Toyota's 360 view won't let me view it from 4x4 height either.

    No.

Most of the posters here are adults. Like the driving population...only the morons really stick out. I'm a moderate, and so I get bile from both sides.
    I'm also a CCP holder.
Yes. My pastor knows that I carry. Usually when I carry an automatic, I'll strip the weapon and carry just the receiver inside. It's not a "gun", but the part with the S/N stamped on it (the receiver) is "the gun." Everything else is just pieces/parts that can be replaced with no paperwork.
Unfortunately.......the .45 is a singularly BAD carry weapon, and so I usually tote a 5-shot small frame magnum with a shot shell in the first hole.
Yes. It can and will kill somebody if it’s misused..just like a Prius can. I suspect that many MANY more people are killed by idiot drivers than are shot by idiot gun owners. ON THIS VERY SITE I’ve read where 'some people' (I’m trying to be nice here!) are trying to disable the VSS input to DVD and NAV units so that they can be operated while the vehicle is being driven.
    And so it goes….

OK...so gun haters are gonna hate.
    Let them.
When I got my first CCP (in the 80's) the issue policies and reciprocity laws were wildly erratic. When I lived in Indiana, 1000 feeet from Kentucky it was literally against the law for me to cross the river carrying, and yet the fact that I had a CCP guaranteed that if LEO pulled me over, he would immediately be notified that I have a CCP.

Then.....The 90's roared in with all kinds of zany anti-gun laws.

Now....as a result of the liberals compulsive tendency to over-reach, we have very solid "shall-issue" laws, reciprocity in nearly every state, the ability to carry in nearly all National Parks, and an instant background check.
AND…(I noticed this last night! :) ) they sell AR-15's in Wal-Mart now.
AND…The SCOTUS has slammed shut the last two attempts to short-circuit the second amendment very convincingly!!!

Hell....let them keep whacking away at it and pretty soon we'll have a national CCP, and who knows what else... ;)

One of the things that I've noticed about all of the FUD slingers who trash Priuses is that the more they try to smear hybrids or hide the truth, the more they illuminate it.
Gun haters are the same way.

    So.....no.
Liberals don't bother me at all!!! :D

Cops will tell you NOT to do that. The aggressive tail gating is road rage. You are not dealing with a rational person. You will have a confrontation, likely physical, if you pull over and "talk about it". Best thing is call the cops and give the license number. Most likely this will not be the person's first motor vehicle incident.

Let the police deal with the nuts.

Proximal, I was thinking about inserting that disclaimer but figured it was pretty much unnecessary. Thanks for the heads-up, though.

Would we be able to call the cops over extreme passive agressiveness of liberal treehuggers in Prii?

Yes if they are obstructing traffic. And since we are talking about passive aggression, the word has two Gs: aggressiveness.

To the raving liberal in here, stop making the rest of us look like dicks. We WANT conservatives to buy priuses too, remember? Durr.

I think what we are seeing here is the problem that we as a nation have forgotten how to communicate and compromise. We are divided along our bases and not truely willing to listen, learn, and compromise.

:focus: over the past 10-15 years I never drove like some in the area. Truely racing light to light, jack rabbit starts, and the such. The last 9 years in a Subaru Baja before my Prius of two and half months.

I have tried not being the obnoxious Prius driver, but I will admit coasting when I see a red traffic light ahead, to staying within 3 to 5 miles over the posted limit and no jack rabbit starts (this I also did in the Baja).

And I see so much more "rage" at my common sense driving in the Prius vs my old Baja. Even when I started a test yesterday after my last fill-up, driving like the rest of the idiots here in the Northern Virginia area; starting off from a red light as if it were the starting line at a NASCAR race, maintianing speed to the next stop light, and the such - I was still tailgated and cut off!

Those haters are definitely out there, it's just illogical to hold conservatives on this site to responsibility for their actions. Many of the haters aren't even conservatives. I used to get a little peeved at Priuses, too. It's frustrating when they can keep up on hills or come off from a stop more easily than your car and you know they're destroying you with fuel efficiency as well.

I know that you are too prejudiced against “my kind” to allow a word that I say to penetrate your hate and preconceived notions, but since there are more open-minded people on these forums, I’ll lay out the logical argument.

We could cherry-pick a few of the most stupid and irresponsible Prius drivers who have willfully endangered the lives of others. Case in point, let’s look at James Sikes, who by all appearances faked the “runaway Prius” incident, risking the lives of others in the process by speeding at up to 90 miles an hour. We can also look at the recent example of the woman who drove her Prius several miles on a flat tire until (allegedly) the tire caught fire and destroyed the brakes. According to the authorities, had a concrete trashcan not stopped the car, she would have crashed all the way into the moving walkway of the airport. She didn't want to stop for the flat because she would miss her plane. Well, she sure missed it now.

We could take these cherry-picked incidents of irresponsible idiots and form an argument on how no one should drive a Prius. However, that wouldn’t be fair for all those responsible Prius drivers out there, and most of us have the sense to see that the argument is fallacious.

We cannot cherry-pick from the worst owners of <insert whatever object> and use that to try to extrapolate to ALL owners. One basic college statistics class will teach you that.

Apart for the basic statistics lesson that needs to be understood of proper sampling, there is also the very real legal argument that gun ownership is a Constitutionally protected right. As far as I know, there is no parallel *direct* Constitutional right to drive a Prius, or any other car.

By the way, I am a firearm owner, and I have neither the pickup-truck, nor the gun rack.

And since you insist on continuing to talk about guns in church, you might have missed this incident of a gun-toting church-goer who stopped a crazed individual who tried to enter the church shooting people. Pastor: Man opened fire after crashing near church - Yahoo! News

And the concealed carry holder in Utah who stopped a stabbing rampage. Perhaps we should ban knives as well as Prius and guns?
Concealed carry permitholder stops stabbing rampage in Utah « Wintery Knight

That's all I have to say about the subject.

    Start with a statistics class.

Well you can't fix stupid :(
I sometimes almost wish gas would go up to $8-$10/gal here- it may actually make some of the jag-offs behave differently..... then again- maybe not!
