Yeah i hope so. My personal wishlist is pretty short:

Double the output of the DC converter (you could stay in EV mode without runing down the HV pack, and blended mode MPG would be much greater, but a shorter range)

Change the enclosure shape/size to fill the spare wheel well. Use the extra space for 8kwh of battery, and better cooling.

Use a BMS that works.

Double the output of the charger (it charges at one 6th C, takes six hours, should be 3)

Monitor the HV SOC and CCL over canbus to make sure they are not exceeded.

It then becomes a $6k-$7k kit which can run 40 miles in EV mode under 30mph, or 40 blended miles at 200mpg or so. you could even slect a "long range" mode which ran for 80 miles at 100mpg. If they can make that happen, i'll buy one. Once you've had a taste of electrons petrol just tastes disgusting.

 

Your gran is probably right! But i spent probably more money on pointless things (adding heated rear seats, front spoiler, 5th alloy wheel, chrome fog lights bits, different front grilles, beesting aerials, subwoofer etc etc) on my last car, which to be honest no-one except me gave a shit about. At least with this mod i may eventually save some money, and i can talk to people, make them think about EV's, HEV's, PHEV's, and it sounds kind of cool that you did it yourself.

I've also been speaking to the DVLA about changing the fuel type on my V5, which they are happy to do, but for a CO2 level change i need written approval from Toyota, so i have asked for that, but don't know if the car would have to go through NEDC, or they can just estimate based on their finding with the PHV.

 

I had to buy another tank of petrol! I could have gone a little further (835 miles, and only put 39 litres in) but we've got a busy week on and have to go out of the way to get fuel. As per the sig, the tank came in at 99.9mpg which i'm pretty pleased about.

miniBMS still functioning well, still thinking about whether to do some upgrades (double pack size, two converters, cooling mods etc) but watching people like plug-in supply to see what they can produce at what price for gen3.

My average speed indicated on MFD is 31mph. To get to work, i have to go through my village and two others before reaching an A road, which is why the average is low. once on the A road i am doing 60. If on a dual carriageway/motorway i only do 60.
As for how it drives, it's fairly normal. stealth up to 46mph is possible (if you're patient) and real EV up to 30mph is quick and easy. i am normally on 6 or 7 bars. If i do a lot of braking, or go down a big hill, i can sometimes hit 8 bars. when that happens the car does behave differently. When you go over the centre line on the HSI the ICE doesn't engage, you have to go about a third past the centreline before it does.

I think my improved economy comes mainly from -not- using the ICE to recharge the HV battery after going through the villages (a real killer before) but secondarily from blended mode. with careful throttle control i can go 100mpg at 60mph.

I did "miles travelled/gallons purchased" which gave me 97.something MPG, but i am using the MFD for me before and after data. I am considering a scangauge.

 

It's still working fine, although I will shortly be selling the kit as I no longer drive the prius.

 

Picked it up Nov 2010, so 18 months. It's one of the newer ones with less agressive BMS and the pouch cells.
