    hello,

after having my car for less than a month, this idiot on the highway ran over the dirty medium to avoid missing his exit and launched alot of crap at my car, one of them hitting and cracking my windshield.....

so.. called insurance, they are replacing it tomorow... and i told them i wanted an OEM windshield. from my previous experience on my 08 prius, everytime they used an generic whindshield, wipers never worked well anymore (streaks and jumping, plus more noise from the road)

they told me i was going to get an OEM windshield.

how do i know that the windshield that will installed is an oem?

I believe it will be stamped with "Toyota" on it somewhere.

Look at the windshield before they replace it.

The Gen 2 OEM windshield has the Toyota label in the driver's side lower corner. The windshield is laminated 2 ply glass. The black lettering and numbers are printed on the plastic layer between the two sheets of safety glass.

If I were you, I would write down all the numbers and letters you can find on the current one so you can compare with the new one they replace it with. That's the only way you'll know for sure the windshield is OEM. The skill of the installer will determine if you have noise or issues with the wipers sweeping properly across the windshield.

I had my windshield replaced yesterday on my 05. The new glass is an OEM equivalent made by PPG. It looks the same as the one that was installed at the factory. The installer did a great job. No change in road noise compared to the original. Nice to have brand new glass - no scratches or chips - at least for now. I paid out of pocket - $253 tax included.

The OEM windshield is also sound-insulated due to the lamination.

I suffered a chip in the glass and lucky it was small enough to fix with safelite which was covered repair service through insurance (60.00). "Yeah, I used my insurance for something!"

I am worried about the same thing, who knows when it would happen. I did call in out of curiousity and only got a quote for a Prius 5 for 1000.00 for oem =(. Hope your deductible is low!

Yes, a member (tumbleweed if I recall correctly) had his windshield replaced with an OEM equivalent and couldn't tell the difference in terms of sound insulation. He has the Five with ATP, which uses a different dot matrix pattern with opening for the LKA camera.

For 2012, the Four and Five equipped with HUD has a special coating on the OEM windshield for enhanced optical clarity.

PPG is an OEM manufacturer - very good product -- you will have no issues with the glass from PPG.

We always ask for the PPG.

It most likely is not the OE for the Prius - since made in Japan. I would be surprised if they imported the glass ......Same with many German cars - you get the factory glass ... made in USA ??
