The only way to operate navigation while in motion is to use voice button on steering wheel. Instructions: Press the voice button, wait for the beep, then you say "enter zip code", (it might respond with "cancel" the first time you say "enter zip code" but push voice button again and try 2nd time), the car will ask "say the zip code", wait for beep, then you say "90404" (or whatever zip code you want), the car will ask "select line number", wait for the beep, then you say "line 1", the car will say "line 1", wait 5 seconds and it will ask you "say the street name", wait for the beep, then you say "santa monica boulevard" (or whatever street you want), wait 5 seconds and it will ask you "say the street number", wait for the beep, then you say "8 0 1" (or whatever number you want), wait 5 seconds and it will ask you "do you want to start street guidance", wait for the beep, then you say "yes", wait 5 seconds and it will say "starting street guidance" note: if you get the wrong zip code then push voice button again and say "enter zip code" if you get the wrong street name then push voice button again and say "enter street name" if you get the wrong street number then push voice button again and say "enter street number"
Well, maybe it understands CA accents better, because I think I speak english pretty well, and I can't even get the right state. steve....born on cape cod [and still trying to get out]
so you have to know the zip code of the address of where you trying to get to? i don't know about others, but I don't know the zip code of most of the addresses that I would need Nav system for.
OP is correct about using the voice commands, but his/her instructions are overly complicated. All you have to say is "Destination" followed by: - Street # - Street name - City - Province or State - Postal Code or Zip Code The last two are actually optional. My Prius c recognizes the command "Destination, 500 Yonge St, Toronto" without having to say Ontario or the postal code. It seems to help if you pause where I've put in commas above. A nav voice command I wish the car could do is intersections. You can do it using the touch screen but it's kinda complicated and of course you can't be in motion while doing so.
Agreed. The original post is overly complicated. You can say it all in one sentence... For example: Press button and say "123 Main Street, Boston, Massachusetts" and that's it, you're done. (Note, the system kinda lags and will take a minute to get all that in there... But you don't have to do anything further, generally.)
Points of interest work fine for me. Starbucks for instance. But it fails every time I attempt to state a destination. I'll follow the correct order of it all and it simply replies, "Montana?" or some other random incorrect state ignoring all other fields I spoke. It's even more frustrating since you can't type any part in, such as to quickly correct the zip or simple street number. Hope it improves in some way some how...
Our voice command keeps taking us to Oklahoma - when we say "home" - <sigh> More trouble than its worth at this point!!
