Took off early today, with a outside temp of 52 degrees. As I drove I was wondering Wth my engine was on. It wasn't until I felt my feet getting warm that I realized the engine was on strictly for the heater, as I had plenty of juice. I turned off the heater, and voila, back to EV mode. It just never occurred to me, though it would seem to be common sense.
Today was day #2 with my new baby. I had the same experience and revelation. Now, I wonder if this is a reason that they gave us seat heaters? Those are electric and should not call for the ICE. So, if you want to warm up, try the seat heater. Obviously, this may not work in much of the US in the dead of winter.
That's exactly why. Unfortunately they don't work to warm up my poor kid who's not old enough to ride in the front seat
