I'm scheduled to pick up my pip tonight and I spoke with the fleet guy and he didnt make me feel all warm and cozy...It should be an easy transaction. It seemed like He didnt like the fact that I wasnt going to finance my car through him. I financed my car through Western Federal Credit Union they had 1.99%, I would have gone throught Pentagon Federal Credit Union but Western is right near my work.
He also is going to be bummed to find out that I wont be buying any of his extended warranties, because I can get them cheaper thru this site (Troy Dietrich)
I told him that I was going to bring in the original contracted price and he said it was not neccessary because he has all the info. (He is not the original guy who I set this thing up with)

I hope I am reading into this way too much...anyway, here I go!
    I'll report later.

Awwww maybe if you buy floormats it will cheer him up? I'm sure they get some commission on the extended warranties/prepaid svc.

When I told my F&I mgr that our CU's rate was 2.49%, he told us about Navy Federal in our area @ 1.99% - and then he told us he couldn't match either one.

Unless there's an incentive rate, the dealer can't match CUs, and they know it. Just ignore the clown at your place, get the option contract, take it to your CU and have fun in your new car. You don't have to like each other to buy a car. And if he's a real creep, just rat him out to Toyota USA when they send you a questionnaire.

You're buying a car from him, and he's making money on the deal. Since you pre-ordered, he probably didn't do a thing anyway -- he didn't convince you to buy it, he didn't give you a test drive, all he did was take an order, and if he won't get his head on straight and treat you with appreciation and respect, call the owner up and demand it. You can tell him the salesman isn't treating you well an you want a different person. You are giving these people over $30,000 and they ought to treat you with respect for it, or you can just show them how easy it is to NOT buy a car from them.

Don't stand for any nonsense. You're the boss here.

Thanks Everybody, I FINALLY GOT MY PIP!! Paul Schulte @ Miller Toyota was great. He was very cool and no problems. Everything was went as planned. I did get a little flack from the finance guy because I didnt want his Toyota Platnum Coverage and I showed him Troy's Price and he said that that was impossible and that price "does not exist." He then admitted to me later that the car industry is not as good as it used to be and that it was because of guys like Troy who were destroying it. In my business people turn the screws to me all the time with pricing and sometimes I give in and sometimes I dont...It felt good to turn the screws on somebody else with pricing. He chose not to lower the price, so Troy will be getting a phone call. I told him about my last experience with Toyota of Orange and how the finance manager met the price of the credit unions warranty so I went with toyota platnum coverage, but he was not going to budge.

Everything else went fine, and I am glad it did because Miller Toyota is a convenient spot to get my car serviced too... I would of hated to have a bad experience and have to go search for another dealership to service my car.
Thanks for everybody who posted on this thread, I appreciate the support. Now time for the upgrades! (i.e. floor mats, tint shop, door panels, navigation unlock,...etc.)

    Congrats!

I went with Dianne @ Carson Toyota and couldn't be happier.

Just out of curiosity, how much does the extended warranty (from Troy) cost? And is it an actual Toyota extended warranty or some form of aftermarket extended warranty?

According to Dianne, they are aren't make that much. Apparently, the markup is a lot less than on comparably priced models, and that really blindsided dealers, especially those who offered discounts off MSRP.

Troy sells actual Toyota Platinum warranties - you can get 7/8 years and 100/125k miles. You can send him a message to get a quote but I'll pm you the price.

You know what? I'm nice to everybody. You don't even have to write me a check for $32,000 to get me to be nice (although it would be nice if you did!). I can buy a cup of Starbucks and somebody will be nice to me, so why would Toyota let some of their salespeople be rude to you when shelling out $32,000? They made a deal and agreed to sell the car, and if they have to be jerks about it, they shouldn't have the business.

I am not trying to justify the rudeness, by any means! And if they made an offer before they knew their costs and the costs are a lot higher than they expected, that is ultimately their problem, not mine, and is no excuse to treat the customer disrespectfully. I was only trying to point out that they actually were not making a lot of money on the deal (and maybe even losing if they were offering $1000 off MSRP).

I'm wondering, how do the sales and service departments interact at most dealers? It seems that they could be willing to make less at sale time and work to bag the long term lucrative service department business. That wouldn't help the salesman on commission, but the owner of the dealership might like it.

Well, Dianne won't probably ever see my car serviced at her dealership (Carson Toyota) and she knew that from the beginning. Yet, she went out of her way to help me buy a car long distance (and I wasn't the easiest customers she's worked with for sure...PITA for her, I'm sure).

There are still people who earn their money when they sell cars.

Admittedly, we'd love it if everyone who got their cars here also serviced with us, and we sure have a beautiful facility and really spacious service department with loads of work space. The customer lounge is really comfy too.. but as far as my clients go, many of you live kinda far away. If you happen in, it's nice but not expected.

I bought a Lexus in 2006 (a 400h) and tried valiantly to buy it locally (Mission Viejo) but they behaved quite badly.. so I ended up getting it elsewhere BUT brought it to MV for service ... Toyota / Lexus dealers keep service, parts, and sales all separate so everyone feels welcome everywhere!

I walked in with PenFed @1.99 and the dealer offered Chase at 1.78. Blew me away. Also got the 7/100K + Fabric protection for $1500 on my Amex card. It pays to know your numbers before you negotiate.
