    Hi all

I'm looking to purchase a Prius iii 2012. Can anyone give me some recommendations or know of any specials in the LA area?

I live in Oxnard. Anyone with experience with DCH Oxnard?

    Thanks for your input

I just bought my prius 3 in San Diego through my credit union, San Diego County Credit Union (sdccu.com/pages/loans/autobuying.asp). Got a great deal and no haggling.

I bought Prius 5 without advanced technology package. Don't remember exactly what was out the door because of tax license and extended warranty.. But I remember the sale price was approx 29k plus tax license and extended warranty. I paid 1700 for 7 years /125k miles (Toyota care platinum warranty)

You should contact troy here about that extended warranty.
$1700 seems very high. You have the right to cancel it. 30 days here.
I think he quoted me about $1200 for 8 years 100k miles.
(I'm a low mileage driver so the length was more important to me )

Why do some many folks talk about OTD (out the door)? The only real number that matters is the actual sale price.

We all live in different states, counties etc... and tax rates are all different. So your OTD price and my OTD price are different. However, the price of the car doesn't change and we can then compare apples to apples if you would just please post the price the dealer is selling you the car for. Why make us have to figure out what you paid for the car when you quote us an OTD price that includes taxes and dealer fees and we have to back figure what the price of the car probably was. All of you who do this please STOP IT! Just give us the price of the car - period!

Okay my rant is over but this has been bugging me every time I see someone post OTD. So please just post the price of the car because no one give a rats behind about the total OTD.

Some people set a budget based on the OTD price.

I can get a car for 30k. But then there will be 3500 in fees added, not to mention if I buy warranties and etc. That can push the payment up considerably.

That is true that some are working on a budget - but when folks want to know if a car is a good deal all that matters is the price of the car. Taxes and such everyone pays. And most folks can add the price of the car plus their tax rate to come up with what their total price would be for the car.

I think that would help ... But really, who cares about how much anyone pays for tax and fees? It still takes me back to the cold hard fact that all that really matters to anyone is the $ figure they paid for the car. Not taxes and fees since its non negotiable.

When we all negotiated with the dealer to buy our cars we negotiated on the price of the car - that's all that's important to them too. And I just can't seem to figure out the obsession here with the OTD price thing. Let's just stick to what really matters, price, and help the other members as they purchase too and not get them confused with needless numbers that really don't mean a thing. Just my 2 cents - YOMV :p

They say apr is not negotiable because it depende on credit. So why did one dealer wanted to give me 6.99 on Prius 2012 then another one offered me 2.99? I don't understand...what would be a good apr for good credit? Oh and I agree about OTD :)

The smart consumer cares about this, then there are consumers that only care about how much the payment is.

That, my friends, is why common sense isnt common at all =)

You can negotiate on your interest rate - I did. From what I understand there are no interest rate deals on the Prius currently. So that means interest rate is at market rate. Sometimes they do .9 or 0% financing for a short time period. Nothing right now.

2.99% is a good deal at this time on a Prius. My credit union had a 2.69% rate for 60 months and the dealer really wanted my money so he offered me 2% so I wojld finance through them. I took it. If you have a credit union they usually have the best rates. Go research this and when it comes down to financing just tell the dealer you are financing with your CU. Most of the time they will try and beat that rate cause they will make money on the financing. Hey if they offered you 2.75 when your CU was offering you 2.99 it's a savings for you - take it!

Scott is correct, we've got no issues matching CU offers. Toyota would much rather have some interest income rather than none.

The "phrase" out the door doesn't help much of anyone, same as a deal quoted from a different state or from one coast to another means little as well. It would be really nice if folks would post their locations sometimes. There are over a dozen different regions in the USA, each with their own cost factors, calculations for incentives and things that differ from one state to another. And, trade values can vary as well. This can akew calculations a lot in some areas.

If you're seeking a deal right now, thru month-end (April 30th) or till I run out of II's, I have a 22,899 special on any II we have. Right now, these are black, gray, and silver. Since it's unknown where anyone lives, with tax rates varying in different counties, posting *out the door* is rather useless too.
