My wife and I put down our deposit for a new Prius C TWO in Summer Rain Metallic. Now we are just playing the waiting game.

About 10 days ago, the dealer emails me telling me they found one, however, when it comes in it would have about 400+ miles on it. We weren't thrilled with that at all. To me, 400 miles is no longer a "new" car..... but, with the inventory out there, you either take it or wait longer.

We decided to move ahead with it. Well, that was 10 days ago, and no update from the dealer. I know the car is in Vermont, I'm in NY. Roughly a 6+ hour drive. They were going to be driving it from Vermont > NY which is where most of the miles were coming from.

I would check every couple days with the sales guy about a status of the car, what the VIN # is so I can get my loan / insurance setup, etc. EVERY time, he keeps asking me why I don't finance thru them. Well, because I'm approved at a 2.29% rate, and you only go as low as 3.49%.......

I just want a straight forward and honest answer out of this guy. He claims their dealership is playing phone tag with the VT dealership. For 10 days???? Getting frustrating now..........

We'll see if we get an update today.

Wow, this sounds like a really frustrating experience. Yeah, they kept pestering me to finance with them too but they were only able to go about half a percent lower than my credit union. I plan on aggressively paying this car off in a year and half so half a percentage was worth not letting them talk me into rolling in extended warranties, fabric guard, yadda yadda...I know they get a kick back from the bank so I understand the pestering, but really.

Seriously tho, unless you really need this car like RIGHT NOW, I would consider cancelling your order if possible because this experience doesn't smell right. Other than the pestering for the loan and dealing with an assy Finance Manager my sales person was on it and let me know what was going on and that was only for a 6 day wait.

This is a huge purchase and they should be treating you right, especially when you have been more than reasonable.

That's the best thing.... we don't NEED to buy this car. We're only buying it for the better gas mileage. We already have 3 fully functional cars as it is. I'm thinking we might go talk to another dealership to inquire with them. I thought buying a new car at Sticker it would come in with 20 miles on it at most???? 400+????

    We'll see :)

That's really a shame getting jerked around like that. I think I'd find another dealer and maybe have a chat with Toyota Corporate! I "ordered" mine in black last Saturday because the dealer didn't have a black two in stock and it was available yesterday but I couldn't pick it up until this morning.
Good luck with your purchase. I've only had mine a few hours and I'm already in love...

Keep shopping with other dealers in your area till you find one that has a sales staff worthy of your business. Pickup the phone and call every dealer in your area to see what their inventory is at the moment. You might get lucky.

Entirely up to you what you feel comfortable doing.

I really wouldn't want to pay for a "new" vehicle inwhich it's genesis was a 400+ mile road trip executed by somebody else.

I also think not communicating with you for 10 days is ridiculous. Probably having some trouble executing a "dealer trade". Maybe the Vermont dealer doesn't have a buyer for an exchange vehicle with 400+ miles on it?

Seriously, they can flatbed vehicles. This simply becomes a day trip for some Dealership employee, in YOUR new vehicle.

I wouldn't be comfortable with that, especially if we are talking 400+ miles.

    UPDATE:

Friday my wife stopped at the stealership and inquired about where the car was. She spoke with a manager, and low and behold, he had no record of any Prius C being secured in our name. They said the small dealership they were trying to get it from was playing phone tag with them so nothing ever got secured.

They also told us they just "locate" cars, they don't place orders directly with Toyota.

My wife called another dealership and spoke to a salesperson she was recommended by a friend, and he says NO ONE trades the Prius C because its such a hot car? He said they only place orders directly with the manufacturer?

Either way, long story short is, we have BOTH dealerships working on finding us the car....... whomever gets it first gets our business.......... I hate their games.

I feel your pain DrPhil- I put a "deposit" on a Prius c Three Summer Rain 17 days ago and still the dealership is not telling me anything. They are still trying to "locate" it. I am currently working with another dealership now too who says that they have located the exact one I want and are working on getting a trade with the other dealership. They said that they trade with this dealership all the time so it shouldn't be a problem to trade one of the Prius C's that they have coming in with the other dealership that has the one I want coming in.. so I am keeping my fingers crossed that this one comes through. I guess then I can just tell the other dealership- "sorry Charlie but I gave you more than enough time to come up with something." Soooo here is a question for you experienced Prius buyers- the new dealership said that the Prius c that is exactly what I want is being built right now and is on the list to be shipped in the other dealership's allotment. If it were built today.. how long should I expect to wait before it actually gets to the other dealership? (It may already be built and waiting to be shipped but I am looking at worse case) Thanks!

When I bought my last new car it had EXACTLY 50.0 miles on it. I thought that was suspicious and just thought the dealer reset the computer memory to something more like a"new car" number.

I put a deposit for a Prius 2 and heard nothing for about a week. Not one to wait, I was able to find a local dealer who could print out the exact model and color they were getting in their next shipment. It was a summer rain Prius 2 - my third choice. Told the first dealer that I already found one and they tried to bend over backwards to locate one for me. Kept telling me they were able to get anything I wanted with a trade in the next week. To top it off, they tried to say the other dealership was probably not honest because no one can "guarantee" a shipment. (how ironic)

The second dealer was honest and I finally receive my car on the day as promised with 7 miles on it.

I'm also on board the waiting train. Deposit put down on 4/10. Just called the dealership a (week later today) and found out that it's on a boat that left 4/13 and once it makes land it will be about another week before I can pick it up from them. Waiting suxorz, but at least it seems like I won't have to wait too terribly long. I've been thinking about (in the back of my mind) getting a hybrid or electric car for at least 10 years now, I can't believe the day has almost come.

I wish I at least knew that they had one coming for me. I put a deposit down and still don't know anything. :(

I guess I was one of the lucky ones... It only took a few days to get my C Two and it came virtually off the truck with 4 miles on it. I hope everyone is as fortunate as I was but it sounds like I'm the exception rather than the rule...

BG: I take it that your C isn't in your dealers allocation in that case? I think that's why mine is going quicker, I picked from what they already had coming to them. If you're willing to compromise on what you get, you may want to consider doing that as well, but you have to ultimately be happy with what you get and if what they have coming won't fit the bill enough then maybe it's not so bad to wait to get exactly what you want.

On advice of a friend I went to the dealer to check on my SR C II. My salesman was nice - took me in back and called inventory or someone. They punched in my order number and found my SR is shipping soon and arriving the last week of April. Should be ready early to mid May. At least I know it's on the way.:)

Gas creeping up again - $4.49 9/10 for regular. (What's with the 9/10 cent anyway?)

Said they are receiving 10 - 15 Cs a month and all Cs till July are sold/reserved at this point. Anyone coming in to reserve a C today would probably have to wait till August.

Also got to see about 3 or 4 Prius Plug-Ins - nice but a little pricey for me. Saw one - assumed it was a regular Prius till I got to the price:eek:. Did a double take at the "gas" tank doors on both right and left sides.

Based on what seems to be a majority challenge in getting the car wanted, I am already prepared to pit every Toyota dealer within an hour's drive against one another to find the C2 we want! We'll likely begin the search after paying off the current Prius in early June.

We've got 2 dealers going against each other with a car on order at both. Whomever gets us the car first wins.... although I did get a better interest rate at the one dealer.

I was told 6-7 weeks.... we shall see :)

Not sure how it works specifically in the US but in Canada, it'll take about 4-6 weeks to reach the west coast (e.g. Vancouver or Victoria) and then add transit time as you go east (e.g. roughly 2 weeks to get to Toronto by train and then truck it to the dealership and longer if it's right to the eastern seaboard).
