Just bought a used 2007 Prius Touring edition (96k) as a beater for inclement weather. Interestingly enough, it may end up being my gas guzzler compared to my motorcycles. I've bought my brother and his wife used Prius (2004) and Civic Hybrid (2003) a few years back and been working on them since. So far they have both been pretty reliable (considering my brother breaks cars like kids break promises). Going to be doing a few things soon and would be willing to help others do them at the same time if there's a meet in northern NJ. ATF drain/fill, spark plug clean/change, engine flush (Seafoam), etc. Same goes for anyone who rides (I have a CBR600RR and a Harley Night Rod Special).
Some of the Gen II & Gen III hypermilers here on PC have achieved 70mpg & 80mpg and above. Just sayin.... you may find it's the 600cc vehicle that ends up being the guzzler. Wouldn't that be something. :welcome:
LOL, never heard the Prius referred to as the gas guzzler before. My bikes got great mpgs with little or no effort on my part. The Prius is different. Good mileage is easy. Great mileage is largely up to driver skill, though. My brother bought my 2009 Touring and right away was getting 50+ mpg. Recently he got 60.5 mpg for a tank. The best I ever got was 48 - 49 mpg in the same car! I really worked at it too. YMMV, as they say.
Hey DT and Welcome. I also have a motorcycle (2007 Hayabusa) and I'm @ 47.1 mpg all city driving it. I'm at 50.3 for the past 500+ miles on the 06 Prius. The motorcycle is more fun (speed of a 'vette, gas mileage of a Prius). Either way, no matter the weather, I get over 45 mpg's city... A win win situation.
Well, that could be the case, but if I pulled the clutch in and/or hit the off switch for most of my riding, I could get up there too. That and the Prius will be mostly for "cold" duty and sub-15 mile trips, I'm probably going to be closer to 40. I noticed with my brother's Prius (04) the first 15 minute "interval" (~5-10 miles) I can never get it over 35MPG. After that, it was around 50 for the rest of the interval times on the MFD when I drive. All this without A/C, heat, lights, or fans on. Previous owner had 46.5 MPG average on ~200 miles when he delivered the car to me. Once I get it registered, I'll clear it and see what I can do (when its not riding weather).
True . . . however if you install Toyota's EBH (electric block heater), you can get 50mpg - even during the 1st 5-10 minute cycle. PC sells the Toyota EBH in their store. Takes maybe 90 minutes for a mediocre skilled person to install. For cold weather winter areas, it's a must have. I'd run mine, even in summer. Warm ups, even 65 degree summer morning warm ups get a benefit. There are several EV's around our area that have Priuses as 2nd cars. License plate frames say, My Prius is my gas guzzler. .
I had a 650 Hyosung that used more fuel on a trip than my Prius, especially when towing a trailer full of camp equipment. Current 1200 Yamaha uses about the same as the Prius. Welcome to PC
If I ever get a Nissan Leaf (long story as to why I don't have it yet) as a 2nd car, I plan to get a license plate frame w/something to that effect for my Prius.
