Well....the pictures are decent, but not great.
The text on the photos is somewhat helpful.

But it would be a LOT better to post written instructions supplemented by the photos in a step by step manner. Esp. something that can be printed out and taken to the car to reference as one is doing the process.

pfmanny - Thanks for the photos and the time you spent! They are just what I needed! It is always good to see where and how parts are attached before you pull on them... My DICE iPod attachment is working great and no broken car parts - thanks to you!

Hey ... Thanks for taking the time to compile this. I am not too sure if i would do that.. I am too paranoid about breaking a clip or doing something wrong.

What a great job. I know how much work it is to document this sort of thing in the very meaningful way that you have done here. I am using your instructions to take apart my dash to modify the lower tray with the flip down front and this takes all the guess work out of what happens when.
    Thanks again.

I have a 2005 Prius with the JBL audio and STUPID cassette, but no iPod hook up. I dont know if I can handle a car without it :p I see that yours is a 05 aswell, does the DICE allow you to control your iPod from the radio functions?

Sorry I am new to the Prius and so im ignorant. :( Thanks if someone could help!

A few bits of advice for your next effort...
    .
White balance. [You did the right thing by NOT using flash]
    .
Don't try to put this together at night, and/or use two light
sources to avoid having one side of everything dark.
    .
Use a timer or a second person to take the occasional shot of
you or your hands actually *doing* parts of it, esp. to illustrate
a particular way of carefully pulling on panels, etc.
    .
Save with higher JPEG quality, to avoid artifacts. e.g. 90%
    .
Use something other than red for labels, and CHECK contrast against
the picture material, especially if you're going to shrink them
down. Shrink them a bit less than you did, it will make worlds of
    readability difference.
    .
    Recheck spelling/grammar.
    .
Avoid "I did ...", preferring second or third-person format for
    a more professional feel.
    .
The numbering scheme you picked was good, as it flows the pictures
in correct sequence if they're just collected in a folder by name
and one points a viewer at the whole set. Consider fixed-width fields
to make double-sure of this, such as dash-001.jpg, dash-002.jpg, etc.
    .
Include references and prior art, such as Chris Dragon's work
and the other knowledge-base items people pointed at here,
in case someone needs another viewpoint for full understanding.
    .
Other than that, thanks for adding to the efforts to get people
to NOT be afraid of tearing their dashboard apart.
    .

Thanks for the effort in taking the photos and in posting. I can see how the dash is put together now. If you could, pictures should be about double this size for better viewing. Not a negative but just a suggestion for any other detailed pictures posted. Many of PC members have "old eyes" myself included! :)

Great thread. Now I think I can do the "Backup Camera Switch Mod", by using your instructions to get the panels off to let me access it and run the wire to where I want to put the toggle switch, (one of the blanks on Panel 2).

Couldn't agree with you more on both points.
#1Great pics and the notes on them would give me enough 411 to do the job.
#2Well, I don't want to comment on your second point as I may get myself in trouble if I do.

Great pictures is all I will say. On the first piece removed over the air vent - which is where a rattle is coming from on mine - how hard do you pull to get the piece off?? With fingers or a screwdriver as shown in one of the other pictures? and does the entire left side have to be removed before the next one on top can be removed, as that might be where the rattle is coming from....tough to tell with everything in place!!

    First post for me!

I really want to thank pfmanny for this thread.
    He just saved a Kitten!
I was just given the task of removing the dash of our 08 Prius to get a tiny (1 week old?) Kitten out of the dash.. the thing had crawled up into the top inbetween the instrument cluster and the tiny side front window vent...

Oh yeah the Negative waves... "Kelly's Heroes" One of my cult classic favorites!

Good for you!! I just happened to do a kitty rescue 4 weeks ago. 7 week old kitten went for a ride wrapped around the front shock assembly of a FORD SUV. If I had'nt found her when I did, she would have been FORD, "Found On Road Dead"!

She has doubled in size, and is just fun to watch. I am glad we kept her, our other 3 Cats are questioning my judgement however!

As "Crapgame" said, "Very good, you get a Cookie"!

    You did a good thing!!
Oh yeah, WELCOME TO DA GROUP!!!

Thanks for the pics and instructions. They do help. But a new question. My tape player ate a tape, and I want to remove the front plastic of the radio to get to the tape. Is that possible? Would I need to do the entire dash removal?
