Today, I experienced the coldest temperatures yet on my drive to work. At one point, I saw a '24F' shown as the outside temperature (although not unusual for April in Minnesota): Expected: My gas mileage was down a bit. I was impressed it wasn't as bad as I would have expected from our 2005 Prius, though. I should have expected: On the last 1/2 mile or so, when driving slow on the little bit of EV left while in the forced HV mode, I accidentally accelerated too much and forced on the ICE again (it had been previously on earlier in my 22 mile commute). This time, however, it was different because it didn't shut off immediately. I think the ICE had to do a second warm up. I'll have to watch that more closely next time (darn that cold weather)! Not expecting: When going over bumps, something started rattling near my car's glove box. It was not from anything within and it had never done this before (in warmer temperatures). It was very annoying (and it did not return when things warmed up for my ride home from work). Anybody else experience rattling noise? Any ideas about what I could do? I sounds like something is loose. I don't want to be hearing this all winter next year!
I have heard this "rattling noise" seemly coming from the glove box. Drove me nuts for a day or two. I could have sworn it was coming from the glove box. Come to find out it was my sunglasses in the overhead compartment! Case closed.
Imagine living in Alaska... There are two main sources of buzzing/rattling in mine. The dash speaker grills and I believe where the plastic dash meets up with the metal body right below the right-side, front mini-window. My wife can place her hand on the dash and it stops while we are driving. But darned if I can figure out how to stop it. I have taken it apart many times and lined it (the dash and side of the body) with sound deadening material.
