So tonight I drove a left over 2011 Kia Optima Hybrid sticker $27,986 I also drove a Prius 3 sticker $26,986 The dealer has been asking if I’m going to trade my gen II Pak 7 in but I haven’t told him one way or the other yet. So the Kia drove nice but response was “weird†almost like it was slipping a gear now and then but didn’t lose power………. Strange. Before leaving they offered me the Kia for $21,999 and said they would be “aggressive†with my trade if I wanted to trade. I’m naturally leaning the way of the Prius but I like the price of the Kia. Thoughts……….. anyone????
In case I decide to sell mine and not trade. would $7,000 be asking too much for a 2006 Pk7 with some mods? 145K miles.
$21,999 for the Kia hybrid? Hmmm I'd be tempted! But Kia and Hyundai hybrid performance is really not all great. Toyota's value will hold up but the Kia price may offset a lower value later.
I believe the drivetrain of the KOH and HSH are the same. I'd pass on both. If you're going to compare the KOH vs. something, I think it should be the '12 HyCam.
^^^ From Hyundai: Lifetime Warranty for 2012 Sonata Hybrid Batteries; Ten-Speed Automatic Transmission in Development, it seems like it'd cover only the '12 HSH, not the '11 or '12 KOH. I didn't see any mention of lifetime HV battery warranty at http://www.kia.com/#/warranty nor the booklet I downloaded, unlike the bottom of http://www.hyundaiusa.com/assurance/america-best-warranty.aspx. OP might also be interested in http://www.edmunds.com/fuel-economy...n-4-which-car-gets-the-best-fuel-economy.html. Not sure how similar the route was to http://www.edmunds.com/fuel-economy/fuel-sipper-smackdown-2.html. FWIW, if my Prius were stolen or totaled tomorrow, it'd mostly likely be replaced w/a Gen 3 Prius or a '12 HyCam.
You get what you pay for! I'd stick with the Prius, you might also look at the C if a smaller car is of use to you.
Test driving the Hyundi tonight. The cost on the Kia is still nagging at me. I don't want to go smaller, but the C is cool. I'm thinking $$$$$$$ all the time but my gut is telling me Gen III, I just need to find a new car that my gut and my head can agree on (that my wallet doesn't freak out over) I'm stillplaying with the idea of selling mine out-right then renting a car till I find what will replace it.
Go for the Prius, you can't go wrong there. In 06, we had a similar choice between a Kia Sedona and Sennia. The Sedona was two grand less and the Toy dealer was not moving on the Sennia. So naturally we went with the Sedona. Though it was a great van, I know if we had gotten the Sennia we would still have it today. I felt uneasy owning the Kia as it was very difficult to get warranty work done on it. Had I not kept really good service records, I may not have gotten a complete oil seal problem covered (read big $$$$).
The discounts that people get on a Kia or Hyundai will be washed away when time comes to sell the car. Just imagine how you would feel if your current Prius is worth 5 grand less today. Also their Hybrid technology is not proven yet IMO. Did you check their real world MPG numbers vs EPA estimates? If I were you I would go with a 3rd gen Prius.
I am not sure how long the Kia or Hyundai have been made, but you might want to price out all three with similar options that you are looking at new to compare resale value. That might help you with your decision. Most of the dealers around here use KBB. Good luck with your choice!
Go to Galves: Better than Kelley Blue Book for used car values! to get the most accurate information for your trade. Dealers use Galves not KBB or edmunds or anything else. The Blake Griffin car is a very stylish car. Decisions, decisions. Was looking at different reviews, and a lot of ppl are reporting below epa mpg. One driver claims that you have to hypermile just to get 40 mpg.
I drive mine like I drove my Jeep and get 50 no problem. I probably drive a 60/40 split city/highway. If you drive more city you might get more mpg. I cruise at about 70 on the highway, that seems to be the happy cruising speed. If I start to get up near 80 or more then the mpgs go down. But if you drive normal then there is no reason not to get close to or at 50mpg.
