How to add Auto/On/Off Lights?

The Automatic Headlights thread is a very long epic. It starts with someone installing an aftermarket auto headlight gadget, then someone discovers the built-in auto headlight feature not used on US vehicles.

That said, I just finished the mod which required removing the top of the dashboard (2011 + owners may not have to do this). I've found that the coolest new feature is auto dashboard lighting adjustment with outside light levels.

 

It is a great thread. I did the mod myself.

I do wish I could close this thread and the one that someone will start next week with the same topic.

 

Void the warranty? Are you saying if you make this mod and have other issues with the car it will not be covered?

The truth is, if you make this mod and your lights no longer work it probably will not be covered under warranty. It does not affect warranty issues on the rest of the car. Many people have made the mod with out issues.

In less than 1 week after I bought my Prius I removed the dash and the front seat to add a lot of new features. I now have 80,000 miles and never had a warranty claim.

 

That's not possible thanks to the Moss-Magnuson Warranty Act. The only situation you might run into is if they can prove the mod directly causes failure of unrelated components, in which cause the warranty is voided only on those components but not the rest of the car.

 

I installed the auto lights mod on my RAV4 and backup sensor and more, and toyota dealership had no problems with that with the many warranty works the car required, including replaced transmission (controlled by electronics just like any other modern car).

 

if installing a plugin conversion kit doesn't void the warranty I highly doubt adding auto headlights will.

 

Man, don't waste your time. I had asked dealer to install for me. The answer was "NO" because my model was not equipped this feature, but they did find other aftermarket kit. Unless Toyota claimed this feature is an option, you would NOT be able to add it on. Most people here had tried their best before they put their hands on their lovely cars.

There are only missing wires and you won't see your stalk coming with "AUTO" position.

 

You might need to back check the thread they recommended because I remembered there were some folks who own 2012 and still did the modification with adding wires and stalks. I would say you won't need to touch ECU at all, but still go back to check in order to get your chance. People here usually provide many options you can go but not always. Good luck...

 

Don't worry. I am not doing much of DIY either. I just wanted to tell you and they may just add wires and a new stalk. If you mod any aftermarket kit on your car voiding the warranty, same thing, dealer also voids warranty when they help you with that or add feature which Toyota doesn't allow like as they replied back to me. If you have paying much money for only this feature, you should just get a model 4 instead. your term and good luck.
