Yes, I have no doubt that the prius c would have done better with a full month and full availability.

Unfortunately that 6000/month allocation is for everyone outside of Japan, not just the united states, although the US should get the bulk. I hope these strong sales will get toyota to increase production bound for North America, or hint hint start building them here.

The die-hards on GMI are pretty upset about that... because they were just mocking Prius a few days ago claiming that wasn't going to happen. They completely disregard the market, still hoping for a Volt miracle.

Meanwhile, Prius has been the #1 seller in Japan for a very long time.

Actually, the Honda hybrid sales have risen month-by-month this year. They'd probably have risen more.

Honda and Toyota sold on efficiency and reliability.
Other companies' cars became more efficient and more reliable.
    Honda has relatively expensive cars.
    Toyota pursued aggressive cost reduction.

Toyota is in a better position to compete on price as well as technology.

Agree, the Prius line is looking really good, and we should soon see an Avalon Hybrid, a Rav4 Hybrid and ES Hybrid!

You can compare 2010 and extrapolate for the larger car market.

You can also compare to 2007, the peak year.
2011 for march-november needs to be adjusted for the problems, but that doesn't mean there is not good data for comparisons:D Let's hope when this oil spike is over, the hybrid sales stay high. Toyota does have a much better hybrid line up than they did in 2007.

    March 2012 in Japan:
Prius (including PHV?): 45496 units, first place.
    Aqua: 29156 units, third place.

WOW total 74652 units in one month!

Aqua posted 64953 units in first quarter 2012.

    Anyone knows the PHV number?

PHV is probably included, but PHV is not available in large numbers. Japanese have big problems with sourcing electricity so for their country, PHEVs or EVs are not good ideas right now.

There are also other Toyota hybrids, so they might have crossed 85k-90k mark this month.
