Has anyone put Porsche 928 or 944 wheels on their Prius? I am having some hubcentric bullit adapters built 25MM thick to mount 928 16x7 wheels with an offset of 65 to my 2011 Prius. The car is lowered 1 inch, and the wheel will have a final offset of 40 with the adapters. This should give a flush appearance with an old school forged wheel. Anyone, Bueller.....
I use to have a Porsche 928. I can't imagine putting those wheels and tires on a Prius. Is there enough room in the wheel well for those wide wheels/tires??? Keith
TOOOO Funny.... The rim is seven (7) inches wide. The tire is 205/55/16 LRR Michelin that will be mounted. A 205 tire can be mounted on a 5.5 to 7.5" rim. All four rims that will be mounted on my prius are 16x7. The early 928 porsche was outfitted with 225/50/16 both front and rear with a rim offset of 65. The later rear wheels had an offset of 52 and were a little wider to accomidate a 245/45/16 tire. You could soure two sets of high offset front porsche 911 wheels as the normal size front tire is 205/55/16 or 205/50/17. I prefer the 928 with the 65 offset so a proper adapter thickness can be used. The G3 Prius has 215/45/17 from the factory on 17 x 7" rims. Gotta love evolution. Maybe the late great Clouseau could chime in. Again, just interested if anyone has done this before. FYI, The Porsche wheel is 19lbs with center cap for the haters. Thanks, ron
This is so interesting for me, I have a 928 S4, I've upgraded the wheels but still have the old flat dish wheels in storage. I would be interested to see how they look on the car. My wheels are staggered, meaning the rear are wider then the front but I don't recall how wide.
Here are a few pictures of the porsche manhole wheels 16x7 with 205/55/16 conti eco plus tires on a 2011. The final offset is 40, and the car is lowered with Eibach springs. I may change the Porsche crest to match the wheel color, or handpaint them with silver, black and red.
Unbelieveable! I've owned 3 928s and it never occurred to me that the flatdish rims would fit on a Prius! And if they fit, the "phone dial" or "egg poacher" rims would also. I believe they are narrower than the flats. These rims (the flatdish) are extremely cheap & can be refinished easily, either polished or anodized (I've had both done). If I remember right, the 928 spare is not as wide, but I can't really remember what it looks like. Pretty sure it was aluminum also. I saw a 356 outlaw that used 4 928 spares & it really was sharp!
No hating just concerned members here that u uphold the prius modding & upgrading to the highest standard possible. As someone has stated, it doesn't look bad, it actually looks good &(design & color) flows very well. Also, the 7" width is nothing as I have 7 1/2" myself w/ the similar end result(45 offset w/ 5 mm spacers in the rear) but the high wheel offset of 65 is normally unheard of installed on a prius which is why the modding section is so great as we're able to see what people can do to their prius. Please, carefully observe & report back on handling & mileage of your current setup.
Thanks SoCalB for the comments. My first choice was a Toyota/Lexus product. The Porsche wheel is an aero wheel, forged, cheap, easy to restore and has the correct offset to use a safe adapter. Call me crazy, but the wheels on my sons car (16) is what I would have done if the offset was a possibility, but the adapter thickness would not work. (Yes the LS is lowered on H&R springs) I have now painted the center crest to match the Porsche wheel. I think there is a better comparison to the second generation lexus LS wheel than a Honda wheel. Agree with you on the modification forum comments and I got an attaboy for reusing an existing product on a new car. I would put my 25 yr old Porsche wheels up against some new cheap low pressure cast wheel anyday from a durability perspective.
I have to say I'm totally diggin' the Porsche wheels on your Prius! They look nice and aero as well! Too bad they aren't a few pounds lighter, but 19 lbs for a 16" wheel isn't too bad. Who built your spacers and how much did they cost? How hard it is to find those wheels? It looks like the Porsche wheels are 5x130mm bolt circle - how did you get them matched up to the Prius' 5x100 bolt circle? Do you have any pics of the adapters?
The Porsche wheels look much better -- I don't know what it is but the asian manufacturers have a hard time with design -- I can't think of a single wheel that I ever liked.

I have 928 phone dial rims that I want to put on my 2007 prius. Where can I get those adapters made and also are the offsets the same with a 928 slotted wheel and a 928 phone dial wheel?
