This is part of my audio system upgrade that includes: Kenwood DNX-9980HD Amplifier Factory speakers upgrade Subwoofer Noise reduction (sound deadening) JL Audio HD900/5 feeds 2x Hertz HSK 163 on the front, 2x Audison Voce AV X6.5 mounted in rear doors and Hertz HX 250D subwoofer in the cubby hole. There are cheaper amplifiers around, but none of them are so small as HD900/5 and also please note frequency (12-28,000Hz) and S/N ratio >108.5 dB - something you can't see often with class D amps producing 900W RMS. Also, based on my previous experience, I wanted a remote subwoofer level control which is really very convenient when you're listening to various types of music recorded on various levels.

well done...looks like you are giving it plenty of airspace for cooling. What is your performance feedback and do you have any pics of the sub? I have been on the fence between the 900/5 or the 750/1 for the sub and a separate for the door speakers. Just curious how good the 500W channel is in that amp compared to a stand alone mono amp. Also, where did you mount the gain knob at and how do you grade its performance? I really like to adjust the mids volume level to the sub on the fly based upon what music I am listening to.
I guess I can do something about it should a problem arise next winter... never had problem with overheating since I installed it last April. In NYC, I never drive with open windows, so when it is hot outside air conditioner is on and cools down the amp. I do not like when it is too warm inside so winter time I keep the temperature inside around 18-20C so there is no way the amp will overheat because of hot air passing beneath it. Still, the idea you gave me is good and may work for people with different environment preferences.
Nice work! I used the same path for the wiring you did for my amp. I pretty much use my a/c year round too so I had the same thoughts about cooling properties. I'm running an Eclipse PA5422 on my system.
My old amp was Eclipse XA5000 - ice cold. But JL 900/5 is 900W so it is expected to generate more heat under full load To my surprise, it never gets too hot, even when the subwoofer is trying to push me through windshield
