I am going to order some MB Boosts for the prius. It is a V and already has 17" so hopefully the mpg hit isn't that bad. I did some searching on here and found the factory offset is 50. The MB boost's come in either 45 or 38. Does anybody have any experience with a 38 offset on 17's? I like the flush look but don't want to worry about rubbing. I also ordered the TRD plus springs from toyata parts people so the V will be sitting a little lower too.

The factory 17" only has a ~1.8 mpg hit according to the European version of EPA testing. If you deviate from factory 17" specs (including offset), you might encounter a bigger hit.

That's pretty good. I have to think the bigger offsets makes a difference as I'm experiencing at least about a 4 mpg loss & I'm about average or conservative loss wise compared to what I'm hearing from others. I know everybodies mpg varies according to many factors but if u don't mind me asking. What is your mpg avg. 32k?

From my experience & what I have read, both offsets will work but to be safe IMHO, I would go with the 45 offset mainly because the front on my 17 x 7.5 45 offset wheels are almost flush as it is. I'm sure the rears would be fine w/ 38 offset but the fronts might be too aggressive compared to the rears. It's all a matter of taste though as I recall someone having lower offsets on their G3 prius:D.

Thanks, yeah thats what I was thinking about the 38 but was hoping it would work so I could get a little aggresive with it.

I'm not the best person to ask as I don't keep track like some of you do. Could be anywhere from 51.5 mpg displayed on a good tank to 47 mpg displayed in the worst weather (at least in the South Bay area), but I don't practice pulse and gliding 100% of the time, only when I remember to do so. My best tank is 54.6 mpg displayed, but never repeated that as I'd rather just drive without having to think. I'm not a natural hypermiler by any means.

This is with the tire pressure at whatever the dealer sets it. A serious hypermiler can obviously do better than me given the same car.

FYI, as I stated, I have 45 offset 17" rims. What I didn't state is that I have 5mm spacers in the rear which makes it 40 offset in the rear & I could probably go a bit more wide to make it more flush but personally it doesn't look right maybe because it's lacking a body kit, not quite sure but I don't want it any wider, in fact, I'm thinking of leaving the spacers out next time. The fronts look good to me as is.

I see. I consider myself a newbee & am far from a serious hypermiler as well. It is tough if not impossible to be a regular hypermiler in southern calif. I think you'll jus piss off too many people here. I should know, I used to be one of those people wondering what's up w/ some of them prius drivers;). So most opportunities I get I try to take advantage of it.

Actually, for effective pulse and gliding, you actually need to accelerate rather briskly, which is quick enough not to piss off people around here. A real hypermiler doesn't baby the pedal like some of the Prius drivers, although they might still encounter problems if they insist on driving 65 mph on the freeways here in order to conserve fuel. My problem is I don't do it consistently enough.

I have been selling replica and aftermarket rims for 8 years and found a site that is GREAT to show differences, including clearances when changing to differenct size tires/rims. You enter year, make, model...then you might have to click on which size tire came on your car...hit compare to and up will pop a split screen that has the stock package on the left and a aftermarket one on the right. You can change the numbers on the left in case you are running a different package already, then change the numbers on the right to what you might want to try. It even gives you speedometer error! If you try to run too narrow of a tire on a certain width rim the width part changes automatically to the width that you can run with the narrower tire. This site is fantastic for anyone wanting to find what the measurements will be and go outside with a ruller and eyeball how much the clearance issues might change. Before you click on the compare button, the site will tell you what the widest tire and rim is that will work on your can. In case of the 2010 Prius: If it has 15 or 16s stock then the widest tire is a 215mm and a 19x7.5 is the largest rim. If it came with 17s then you can go up to a 235mm tire and a 19x8.5 rim! Here you go, have fun!

Thanks ataylorracing, using your tool and looking at other pics I think I am going to go with the 38mm offset. Should be almost identical to the amount that the five axis rims stick out since they are 7.5 inch rims with a 45mm offset. Thanks again for your help.
