I noticed the maximum tire pressure is 51 psi on my new Prius C, which is up from 45 psi on my '04 and '11 Prii. I run my '11 at 45/43 front/rear for better mpg and tire wear, but I'm curious what other perople are using for psi and how much it affects mpg and ride?

You are looking at a specific tire and not the model of car specifically. The manufacture recommended pressure is located on the placard in the driver's side door jamb.

The recommended tire pressure for your '04 and '11 was 35/33psi. The OE tires on those cars were rated at a max pressure of 44psi.

I'm sure you realize all this but for the lurkers I want to ensure accuracy. :)

38/36 - had tried 40 in the front but the results were too firm and jarring. My oem tires have a cold rating of 41 so didn't really want to chance taxing them too much anyway. I have noticed that just this amount of change has helped make my 14 mile commute to and from work go from an average of 52 using the original factory pressure to now 60 mpg and often higher on certain trips - have a personal best to work of 75 mpg for a couple trips now that the weather is warmer.

You might try having your Toyota dealer install pure nitrogen in your tires and the spare so that tires run cooler and gives a similar effect as raising the pressures except you maintain the factory recommended tread contact pattern instead of a thin line and longer minimum stopping distances that you get with high pressures. Nitrogen is also less prone to leakage and that is why CostCo puts it in the tires they sell. We have been doing that for a good 10 years and no tire has ever even lost pressure. PTL <><

40/40, ride and mpg both seem good.

  10. I've been using 43 front and 40.5 rear (max. sidewall is 51). I find the ride very smooth except on bumpy roads.

I get 64 mpg in city/town trips (except the very shortest trips) and 57 mpg on the highway.

I have a 2011 Prius Two. I inflate my tires as recommended by Toyota, 35 in front and 33 in rear.

Sorry, but nitrogen will do little practically for any vehicle. The reason for using nitrogen is first the nitrogen leaks less through the tire wall is its a larger molecule but the ait doesn't leak that much faster. If you wait to check your tire pressure til N2 vs air makes a diffeence you need to sell your car.
Second the expansion of nitrogen with increasing temperature is less so you can run faster with less tire pressure build up. The difference only matters at racetrack speeds.
If a dealer charges $99 for nitrogen tire filling you are getting the royal screwing; worse than the paint protectant one. Never trust a dealer that wants you to pay anything for nitrogen. Air is more than fine.

You are absolutely correct. Nitrogen is a dealer gimmick. A ripoff.

(you're in the Prius C forum)

What kind of trailer and RV do you pull with a liftback?

What works for the liftback, will also work for the Prius C!!
Put max pressure in tires; according to max on sidewall.
Higher pressure will give you better MPG.(y)

    I pull a 1900 lb RV, at about 50 to 60 MPH.;)
    I would like see a Prius C tow?

Has anyone mentioned yet that air is 78% nitrogen anyway?
