Close to 400 miles since the last fill-up and according the computer I still have like 140 miles to go on the tank. So hard since I am used to filling up every 280 miles breathing fumes along the way it seemed with my old '03 Baja.

It is a strange feeling, I even lost my mayorship of the gas station here on Foursquare.

I used to go every week in my Eclipse with its 18 gallons gas tank of 91....300 miles a week and usually filled around 15 gallons so roughly 20mpg on a good week of highway driving.

Haha, euphoria will dissipate but the smile will be constant especially when your eventually at a gas station & you see others frowning because they have to put $60+ to fill up their cars & trucks to go less than half the distance of our prius;). BTW, the computer is conservative to say the least & u can go another 100 miles beyond what it states.

Convert your regular Prii to a PHEV and you'll visit the gas station even less! But ya it is a strange feeling but a good one.

Are you using 91 or 87? Im still using 91 since San Diego has lots of hilly and mountain... I just feel 91 has better performance to climb...

I was surprised/disappointed this morning to find gas at $4.04/gal. I last filled up 11 days ago and it was still $3.9x. I had to ask someone at work "when did it hit $4/gallon?" I was told- "last week" :D

I was told by a service guy never to use 91/93 gas.

I don't think the ICE in a Prius would be any different. But in general, if it isn't pinging under load with the lower octane, then use it. Going to higher octane fuel just slows down combustion. The energy content of the gas is the same.

Same here. Went from 14mpg beast to around 54 mpg. Not too bad. I miss our local Wawa. I used to frequent there quite often, and get subs, sodas, snacks, and lottery tickets. Now I forget what the place looks like.

You're saving more than just money spent on gas, then. That MPG change is sort of like one of those lottery tickets winning - just not a lot and not payable up front!

Gas just hit $3.99 at our local Sunoco today. 280 miles at 20mpg (when my low gas light usually went on with the Baja) with 14 gallons = $56. Right now I am predicting that I will hit 450 miles before the low fuel indicator on the Prius. That would be from what folks say 8.5 gallons, so just $34. So life is good. :)

Wish I the money for a PHEV, and a place to charge one at the condo I live at.

So I am guessing complaining that gas is now $4 a gallon would not be a wise thing to say to the guy next to me in his SUV then?

Rethinking how I fill up the Prius. Holding out on the next fill up to just see the range and gallons needed. Hate paying the blood money for those that are getting rich off us working stiffs... So I will change up to fill ups after my usual 200-300 miles to save a few more pennies at the pump.

Still hit the local Sunoco for soda and snacks that give me discounts at the pump when I am too lazy to have stocked up at the Safeway.

Prices have been going up in Chicago at a very fast rate.
As prices go up, I buy more frequently... even if only to get 4 - 5 gallons.

I DO NOT WAIT IN LINE THOUGH! (at least so far)...

Last tank I bought got under 5.9 gallons under $25.

Last vehicle that used pump bought $90! .... OUCH!

I was downtown last friday night & it was $4.49/gal. So I waited until the next day when I drove south to Morris & filled up at $3.89.
You gotta be smart & shop around.

GasBuddy is a great ap to find the cheapest prices.
