Just for fun, I like to go cruising around in EV-mode. The other day, I decided to see how far I could extend my trip by driving (safely) at slow speeds and 'gliding'. This is what I ended up with: 17.3 miles (999mpg)

Not making this into a contest, but what have other people achieved (without helpful hills...that is)?

    Maybe 17.3miles/(54mins/60mins/hr)= 19.2 mph ?

    That was some slow cruising.

I assume start point = finish point ?

So far my record is 48.7 miles, hoping to break the 50 mile barrier this summer.

Well I did not want to hijack this, but I'll follow on after gwmort.
It is very easy to exceed EPA in EV mode. Much more variation than in an ICE.

Well my minmal elevation change record is 62 (1.7* EPA) (mostly 30-35mph). With some mountain downhills I've gone well over 2x EPA and mostly at highway speed. Next summer.. I'm going for 100!

I break 50 regularly; best at winter temps was 51.6 returning home at 30F.

Great job iRun26.2, maximizing EV and MPG is very addictive. Soon you may develop gas anxiety, a bit like range anxiety for an EV, but you'll be worrying about the ICE starting rather than being stranded.

I have to admit, I had kind of forgotten about you (Volt) guys. While, for comparison purposes, it is nice to hear the numbers that the Volt is getting, I am hoping to also hear from other Plug-in Prius drivers.

I do not want to have started yet another PiP vs Volt debate thread!

Yes. Start point = End point = My garage

(Also, there were quite a lot of stop lights and stop signs on my trip)

I got close to 15, but I just did normal driving, 35 to 40 mph roads mostly flat terrain. My poor ICE is going to rust if I don't use it more.:) My gas tank is still on full after a week of driving...YES :D

Well, if you Volt guys can jump in than I guess I can jump in and say that I've done over 70 miles in my Leaf before, with range left to spare.

Seriously, though.. I will be following this thread. I'm curious if anyone will be able to make it 20 miles or more in a PiP.

My 17.3 mile EV trip was at night, so my headlights were on, wasting addition charge.

The best I've managed so far was 14.3 or 14.4. It was a regular morning commute. However instead of turning into the parking lot, I figured I'd drive around the block to see when it would run out.

Not very impressive, that's below the EPA estimate. The Op's 17.3 miles was 57% above the EPA estimate. Leafers need to hit 114 to be doing at least as well. Its not how big your is, its what you do with it. :D

""To summarize, the Volt and the plug-in Prius cost about the same, but with the Volt, you're getting what in our opinion is a substantially better car. It's got more battery life, it's faster, it's more powerful, it's better looking, and it's much more fun to drive."

To be fair, a base PiP costs less than a Volt, even given the lesser tax credit allowance but you do get a lot less battery range, a significant selling point.

I agree. you shouldn't count how many miles but how many percent above the EPA rating.

Thank you very much. First of all the base PIP cost $32,000 the Volt costs $45,000 here in NJ,thanks to the greed of the GM dealerships. So $13,000 is not even close to being the same cost. I've owned GM Chrysler and Ford, and no way is their quality anywhere up to Toyota's. I'm sure the Volt is a very nice car, but all this GM bravado is something to post on the Volt web site. This isn't about who has the best toy it's about learning about the PIP from others.

Just went for a cruise in my new PIP, just to test the EV range. I went out and back, and got 15.6 miles. Relatively flat, and no traffic. However. it was 12 degrees F.
