Not sure exactly when they posted this but it was fairly recent: Installation Instructions | Prius Gen 2 As of now it doesn't seem to be complete, more of a rough draft but it's a great start IMO. Looks similar to this guys install of their kit: PriusUpgrade I'm not sure if he's a member here. Any other members using their 10kw kit that did a DIY install? If so, any comments? I like the idea of doing a section by section install so you can break up the $8500 cost.
I would like to see photos of how PIS do their ICE kill wiring. I have got some heavy coil springs on order and I will be installing them myself. After seeing the PIS website step by step photos it looks easy, no need for using a coil spring compressing tool.
Most of the steps in Gen II are either not necessary or easier for Gen III. The prep for PIS is almost the same as Enginer. The instruction doesn't show how to attach the HV cable or the installation of their custom electronics. I think they don't want to give it away.
It would make sense they don't want to give certain things away but I still hope they continue to add. The priusupgrade website really has a lot more pictures but unfortunately no instructions, you have to buy his book.
I notice that the install (based on the PriusUpgrade images) seems to put an additional fan in the OEM battery vent exhaust line. That seems like a good idea for a mod in and of itself. I seem to remember reading someone's post about trying to mod the OEM vent fan and there being some complications.... Adding a separate fan that you could manually control via a switch somewhere would be nice.... Anyone done something like that?
Maybe PIS make the buyer sign a non-disclosure agreement before selling the kit. How else could they stop their secrets from becoming public knowledge.
I have ordered a 4kw PIS DIY kit and I plan to document the install and the results here. Hopefully it will answer any questions about the install. I expect to receive the kit in 3 weeks.
Plug in Supply conversion/componet are expensive when compared to Enginer conversion /componet . I do not like the PIS 4kw with the round cylinder cells.However PIS componet/conversion are more quality and support driven than others! On the other hand Enginer has the following issues "they ask for donations" on website which is not current, low market end product issues, and support issues.
Hi Chief, I have heard good things about the PIS 10Kwhr system but in all the time that the PIS 4kwhr system has been available I have not heard any feedback from users. Please Post your results and some photos of what you do on your install. Thanks, Dan Lander
cpraudio. One of the HV wire is probably connected directly on the nimh cells, not on a nimh contactor In this pdf: http://diy.pluginsupply.com/files/system-overview-prius-10kw.pdf you can see a red wire "over" the nimh battery that goes on the right. When I do my plug-in I immagine this. But don't do it because this wire is then longer.

Hi Planetaire, It looks like all control to allow EV at high speed is done through the Canbus only. What do you think?
Before driving without gas at high speed, I have on other question: I don't see in the pdf a bridge on the can bus. Bms+ is a bridge so nimh ecu dtc don't go on the bus. PIS have just a front "controler" on the bus. Because it is just connected on the odb plug this is not a bridge. May be they send a fake soc just after the original one. Today, I only know two way to cancel engine at high speed: -before driving take off the fuel pump fuse (have a look here: https://sites.google.com/site/priusupgrade/ picture 254.jpg and follow the two yellow wires...They are not shielded so can't be can bus. Could be some 12v power wire ) (Thank you PriusDIY for the link) -intercept pid on the bus between ecm and other ecu (peef method) If somebody knows an other way, I would be interested too. (You could add N mode and going down a hill, but it is not a traction mode) So I will read with interest what usnavystgc will write. Ecm assembly ? Ecm is on the passager side. But Junction connector (J/C1 and J/C2) where all ecu can_wire goes are on driver side and passenger side. On J/C1 you have Nimh_ecu+Power_sterring_ecu+Skid_ecu On J/C2 you have Ecm+Hybrid_ecu+Gateway_ecu+Yaw_rate_ecu
PIS sell a "ECM assembly" as listed in the price list for DIY. I have no idea what it looks like. I believe this is the part which allows EV at high speed (lot greater than 85kph) by enabling and disabling the ICE. Since there is no bridge on the Canbus I then assume that they somehow manipulate the ECM or maybe replace it with one which has been reprogrammed for a PIS kit. With this ECM assembly there is no need to stop and cycle the power to enable the ICE like the old PIS kit used to do by using a simple fuel cut switch followed by a instant clearing of the DTC. The new PIS kit is a lot more sophisticated than the old one. I guess that the ECM assembly is also the part that allows the Prius to discharge 200amps (10kwh PIS kit only) into MG2 instead of the maximum of 125 amps on a standard Prius. A good reason to get a 10kwh PIS kit instead of a 4kwh PIS kit.
Just one idea. Not to be done if you are not "the king of the can bus"::third: You could imagine cutting the 12v power to the toyota ecm, then connect anywhere on the can bus a can interface that simulate the ecm messages when engine is cold. Just answering as if the ecm was alive eace: Of course you have to stop the car to go back to hybrid mode.
Have you seen the tests: Plug-In Prius Conversion MPG and Emission Test Results | Plug-In Supply May be they connect their own ecm that control the engine ! 200 Amp ! That is more then 40 kW. Can the boost converter do this ? 200 Amp, I only saw this on a other not modified prius car and it was very briefly (1/100sec) Where did you saw this amperage ? Edit from PIS: I believe that 200A is not permanent 100-135 might be.
Maybe 200amp for greater starting torque through the inverter in EV mode? Does the 10kwh PIS kit offer a higher starting torque in EV mode before the ICE would kick in.
