I got my PIP today. Sea Pearl (green) base model. Had a little trouble getting an appraisal for my 2007 Prius to decide if I would sell it myself, sell it to another Dealer or Trade it in to my Dealer. I went to 3 other dealers and one wanted to buy it on the spot for $11,500, while the other 2 gave a weak $9000. My Dealer initially only offered $8500. I asked him to recheck and to call the dealer to confirm the $11,500 quote. My Dealer then offered $11,000. Since I would also save the Sales tax of 7.5% with the Trade in, that I wouldn't get selling it, we had a deal. Toyota gave my Dealer no training yet on the PIP. And I was the first in Rochester. I should hire myself out to train them and the other Dealers !!! I had asked them to Charge it up since they had it for 2 days. When I arrived they said it was half-charged. I asked them to continue charging while we did the paperwork. When I got in it, the charge was only half of the BARS. They didn't know the bars would change to a solid and the EV miles would display. So I took photos before I drove off, got a lock for the charger Plug and a 25' 12-gauge extension cord. I had little charge, so it was HV all the way home. After dinner, I drilled the locking hole a little larger for the lock, started the charge and took a few more photos. The Fun Starts !!!
About to leave Dealer with little charge Kill-A-Watt Voltage Kill-A-Watt Amps Needed to drill the locking hole a little larger With the tumbler lock from Home Depot, $6
Humm. I might shop my 2007 prius around for buy offers. I'm going to need a pretty good trade/buy to justify completing my PiP order.... Ken, if you dont' mind me asking - what was the odometer and condition of your 07?
Hey Ken, Great name by the way My Sea Pearl (green) base model got into port on Tuesday. Hopefully I'll get to see it soon !! What size drill bit did you need to enlarge the hole ? Ken
Thanks for the padlock idea. I received my Clearwater Blue PIP on Tuesday and charged it up. But I only get 13 EV miles on the charge. Do you have similar experience? Bob San Jose CA
i checked the dealers around me, two 2007 prii for sale, one 15,000.00 and the other 23,000.00 that's right i also have a 2007 prius, bought it used two years ago for 13,500.00 . go figure.
I got my e-mail today! My PIP reached Buffalo NY this AM. It was built on 1/31, shipped 2/6 and arrived in Newark a week and a half ago. Now the long wait... United Airlines takes me on a one-way trip from Wisconsin to Buffalo on 4/6. That leaves three weeks for the people of western New York to stop by and drool and ask "Is that one for sale?"
Congrats! How is West Central Wisconsin ever going to stand two plug-in cars in the same neighbor hood. Have a safe trip and enjoy!
Per capita our PIP density may be as high as Carson, CA. Any other cheddarheads out there on this thread?
I had 78,200 miles, 5 years and 1 month old, very good shape with new Tires in Sept, new front brakes in Oct and new driver-front wheel bearing the day before. Carpetted floor mats that I got with the car were never used. I used BJ's weather mats. I did the AutoTrader online Appraisal and got $10,311. I printed from Cars.com all 2007 Prius within 250 miles to find typical asking prices. I also printed for all 2005, then all 2006 for comparison. The Dealer I bought the 2007 from barely looked at it and quoted $9000. I showed him the AutoTrader and the Cars.com and he said he could only afford $9000. BYE !!! I got a call from a Ford dealer that saw my Cars.com ad. After a brief inspection, they also quoted only $9000. BYE !!! I got a call the morning of the PIP pickup from another Toyota Dealer that also saw my Cars.com ad. I drove over and their Appraiser showed me how he determined the quote and comparing it to what was available wiithin 250 miles and he said "WOW, I want your Car !" and quoted $11,500 and would cut a check right there. Double WOW !!! I had it on Cars.com for $12,991 and figured I could get $12,000. So $11,500 was great. He understood that I was picking up my PIP at the other Dealer. So he told me that if they quoted $10,700 to take it since I would also save the tax on the PIP with the Trade in. Otherwise, come back to him and he would give me the $11,500. He even signed the Quote with his phone number. My Dealer quoted me $8500. WHAT !!! I told my salesman to press the appraiser and showed him the $11,500 quote. I told him he could even take my car in Trade and sell it to the other dealer and make money. After some internal pressure, they quoted me $11,000 trade. So I got the $11,000 off the PIP PLUS saved $825 in tax (7.5% x $11,000). GREAT. SOLD !!! It's Sea Pearl (green). In sunshine it's light green, but with overcast it's Teal (a green-blue). So it will be Teal alot with our weather !!! Good Luck.
The plug's hole was 3/16, and I only needed a 13/64 bit for the lock to slip in. and the tumbler lock was only $6.
Yea, about 13. Boy I wish it was 20. I know More Distance = More Battery = More Weight = Poor HV MPG, but having 20 miles would be sweet, because the car is really nice. Congrats to Toyota and the 12 years of the Prius. Especially the Gen 1 owners and your foresight. This Morning 13.3 - Charged at work 13.1 -
Hi Biking Maniac, My PiP isn't coming to West Herr in Williamsville, NY until April 18 but I already have a Leviton level 2 charger installed (on 12/30/2011 for tax break) . Come by on 4/6 and we'll give you one free charge. I know that won't get you to Wisconsin, but it might get you to Niagara Falls. Bob Allendoerfer
