I have a black 2011 prius almost new.
was having my home painted and the painter decided to wash his brushes close to my car and then flicked the brushes to remove the exccess water right next to my new car.

I did not notice it till 2 days later and now I have white paint splashes on the door of my black car.

i dont want to use chemicals and ruin the finish but i dont know what to do?

    Any Ideas???

    Use a clay bar.

I'm actually just interested in what answers you might get within this thread.

I'm going to assume you've tried washing by hand using the usual and common tools? Perhaps judicious use of one of those manual do it yourself Pressure Wash Car Washes? Maybe the paint hasn't adhered permanently and that might work.

If all that fails, I would contact a good automotive bodyshop. The closest I've come to your situation was when some bird droppings stained the my 3M Clearbra. I couldn't clean it out...The Installer was a master with a buffer, and also knowledgeable about what "chemicals" could and should be used.

I would tend to recommended a cautious D.I.Y. approach. Trying to remove something using friction...can cause MORE damage if done inproperly.

I would try "normal" washing and cleaning techniques, A.S.A.P. and if they did not work, I'd escalate to professionals.

I'm also willing to keep an eye on this thread and see what else gets recommended.

On of the original uses of claybars was by body shops to remove over spray. That was before they were even available to the general public.

Don't over do it. Use it as recommended. Hopefully it will work.

I'd even go to youtube, and watch some tutorials on how to use Claybar correctly.

Missuse of Claybar can create more damage.

I think it's an excelllent idea to try it. But if you've never even known about Claybar, be careful if your first application of useage is in trying to remove paint.

+2 on clay bar. They were developed to remove overspray.

Cleaner polisher grinds on the cars paint as it grinds on the overspray. That''s why claybars were invented, so stuff that sticks up from the paint can be removed without grinding on the car's paint.

Keep in mind there are different "levels" of clay bar also. I have used the regular version as well as a more abrasive version for the same reason as you. The more agressive type is red. It did get the spray off but it is still a LOT of work. Good luck!

the paint spots have been on my car for more then two weeks so they are kinda looking permanent.

The most critical thing is to keep the surface well lubed so the bar rides on the film of lube (water plus car wash soap or whatever is recommended).

Done right the clay bar won't touch your car's paint but will work on whatever sticks up from the paint.

Maybe a wet towel could loosen the paint?

If your house painters used standard exterior water-based latex paint, you might try putting a large soaking-wet towel on the over-splash paint area for an hour or so. It should loosen the over-splash enough that you can carefully wipe it off. If the paint won't loosen, try the other methods. If that works, apply a good quality wax once cleaned. The wet towel should not harm your clear coat finish for the short time needed to soften the latex over-splash. Do this in a shaded area.

Clay Bar is just a very fine grade of abrasive, it grinds on the paint too.

Yes, but with the appropriate lubricate, it should glide over the paint and pick up the embedded stuff. That's why you don't use it dry.

If its grinding on the paint that's because you aren't using it right.

Out of curiosity ... why did you wait 'more than 2 weeks' to act on this ?? Or did you just not notice it until 2 weeks later ?

I would try washing the car -- even better after a rain -- most house paint today is water based and should come off in two weeks with little trouble.

Then I would use the clay -- follow the directions. They work great but you must keep the clay clean and lubricated

    Well,
i tried to clay the paint spots away and it did not work at all. so someone suggested to try a hand sanitizer.

well surprise surprise! it took the splashes right off and i quickly wiped the surface clean of any left over liquid..

    who would have thunk!
