I think one of the reasons people feel mpg improves with break in is the fact that their mileage usually increases after the first few thousand miles. I believe the two main reasons for the increase are the driver becomes better acquainted with the car and becomes mre efficient at driving it and more importantly the tires break in and begin to wear down. As tires break in rolling resistance decreases and as they wear down rolling resistance decreases further. A tire is usually fully broken in after a few thousand miles and this is around the time most people feel a car is broken in. Coincidence?
Can this be the official Prius c user-reported mpg's There is way too much "NEW THREAD" its confusing!!!! Can the mods sticky this
44 MPG the first 200 miles 48 mpg to 300 miles driving from san fran to auburn above sacramento 57 mpg from san fran with 300 miles on the car all the way to dixon. [1 hour plus] 56 mpg from dixon to rocklin [ 1 hour] from dixon to auburn climbing 1000 feet above rocklin my average went to 51.3 mpg. not seeing 50 mpg + in town with all hills and stop and go
No. There is an appropriate thread now in the economy section that follows the template established in the other Prius sub forums. Now people just need to use it. It's like herding cats! Damn c owners.
I drove 53 miles today in a mixed 35mpg/45mph zone with gradual hills and by the time I was back home, the Prius C gauge said that the trip was 70.4 Miles/Gallon!!!! This is my 3rd day owning the Prius C 3 and this was my first time hypermiling the Prius C. After I get more used to how the Prius C drive, I will easily get over 75mpg all the time.
I dont think so. but it could be a small part. i wouldnt discount it completely. Im almost positive its the rings seating in, for the larger gain. after 200-300 miles I got a 3-4 mpg increase on a long trip, driving the same. a day later I read this site and picked up a additional 5+ mpg by driving habits learned here
Yes it was me.... Sorry I fell in love with it.. The buying experience was fine. I would recommend them or Toyota South, if you go to South Speak to Dean. They told me someone would be in at 4 PM to look at it but during my test drive I knew I was gonna take it. I drive much interstate close to 70 MPH for work all the way to Florence, so with 3 days of that under my belt I did over 51 MPG hand calculated. When you get yours will have to meet up.
good job. I am still waiting my C. it is on the ship from Japan. lol just filled up the gas tank for my civic. $50 bucks ~ damn.
Tires can easily cause a 2-4mpg loss or gain. Do not discount the difference new or inappropriate tires can make on Prius.
Just came back from driving my Prius C 3 for 14 miles. By the time I came home, I got 77.7mpg! The route was mostly 35mph with 45mph at the end of the route for about 3 miles. I hypermiled of course.
On my 42 mile (each way) commute which is 60% highway, I've been getting 51 mpg. (Well, for the 3 days I've had her, anyway!)
Yesterday I got 62mpg! My trip was 7 miles going 25/35/45. When there's a lot of stop-and-go traffic it tends to be slightly lower. Love my new Prius C!!
Yup. Improving with practice. I drove home with two stops. 18.3 miles in 48 mins. 79.3 mpg and fuel cost of $1.02. That is better than my moped, I think! The C is very different from my 2006 IV. More responsive in many ways. One thing I have been doing is waiting til the gas engine shuts off at startup before driving... Wonder if that makes a diff.
^That would actually have the effect of reducing your mileage...so maybe you'd instead be seeing 82 mpg on the readout if you hadn't waited. ;-)
Official mpg based on my first fillup: 434 miles 7.066 gallons ---------------- 61.42 mpg My 2006 IV was averaging 56 mpg Gas this morning at Costco was $4.61
