got my car maintained today, I had my own parts etc... this is the big service. labor was $123.70 shop materials $10.78 tax $18.90 total $176.38 just wondering if you guys think its worth it ? or should i go to another shop that can do everything for cheaper ? thought I go to Toyota just because the technicians are hybrid certified. let me know what you guys think
Maybe it is me, but with your own parts this service should have been half the cost. Here in the US the first 30k miles of service is free in the first two years. My fiancé pays $80US every 5k miles despite my paying less than half of that for my now old '03 Baja. Now that I have a Prius and look at the maintance schedule - I see little reason for a "specialist" in hybrids. Basic car care 101.....
The factory maintenance schedule is adequate, but the transaxle and brake fluids should both be replaced at least every 60k (preferably 30k) if long-term ownership is your plan. Changing the coolant and brake fluids on the Prius requires a bit more knowledge than your typical lube tech. They are most easily done if one has the Techstream scan tool. Anyway, I do not see why a well-informed mechanic cannot do the work properly. Unfortunately, you will not find many mechanics who are familiar with the Prius outside of a dealership.
may help to know what was included, also shop rate is probably about $100 / hr so the labour does not look to bad
I was gonna say, the labour rate doesn't seem too bad either. A full maintenance is closer to Cdn$300 if you don't supply your own parts.
