If any of our Prius members are in Honolulu please test drive
the Prius C and give us your report.

Better yet, if somone buys one there lets us know about it so you
can give us feedback on it.

I'm here in Oregon and Hawaii is too far to drive from here.....

Test drove one. Good drive, ride a little stiff, rear view not so good. Left lot and went up Red Hill Ewa bound - pushing - about 27-28 MPG. Turned around before Aiea and back up Red Hill Honolulu bound and back to lot. Don't remember MPG downhill. About 6 miles - average 50 MPG.
Pic of a Summer Rain about to be released into the wild. Was already sold when I got there.

    Below are couple previous posts:

    (1) Not much to base on but seemed pretty efficient. Short test drive of Prius C II - going up Redhill Ewa bound then coming back up Redhill Honolulu bound then back to dealership. About 90% freeway - average speed 55. Maybe six miles - average mpg on trip meter display = 50 mpg.

Uphill, IIRC, was around 27 mpg - I was pushing some - had to keep up with traffic[IMG]. Can't recall downhill mpg. Should have bought one right then - I left and when I went back a few hours later only two II's were left along with some I's. Ordered a Summer Rain but it won't be in for a couple more shipments - April.[IMG]

    (2) Prius C's are selling in Honolulu. I ordered one only because the color I wanted had already been sold. I was surprised they were actually selling the cars off the lot - I just assumed that they called me to come look at the cars and maybe test drive one. The salesman called me and said "We got the C's - and we are selling them."[IMG]

Test drove a II in Moonglow on Friday morning (2/17). They had at least 6 Prius C IIs and some Is. Went back in the afternoon but the Moonglow & metallic gray were already sold. Only a Superwhite and Habarnero left.[IMG]

If they had the the Moonglow or metallic gray I would be driving a Prius Ç by Monday. The Habanero was tempting (mid-life crisis?) but it was not on the lot and I couldn't see it.

Since I had to wait anyway - I ordered a Summer Rain - which will not be coming in till April. This first shipment's Summer Rain was sold by the time I got to the dealer.

Dealer called around 9 am, I got there around 10 am. Test drove and looked at the Moonglow C II. Left and went back around 5:30 pm - only two C II's were left. They also had some C I's left. Did not see any III's. No Summer Rain in the March shipments or someone already reserved it. Not sure how many C's they got in the February shipment.

IIRC - they told me they will be getting only about ten C's per shipment.

Edited to add: They don't even have the brochures and slick advertising stuff for the C yet. Salesman sat at the computer and went to online stuff to pull specs and other info and even pictures (to try to figure out colors). They did not have anything showing the different colors - just pointed at other models in the lot and said it looks like that gold or that blue. Summer Rain - "kinda of teal" was all they could say as not everyone had seen all the different colored C's - a lot were still in storage (probably in one of their lots near the docks?).

Thanks for your post. I don't understand why the Prius C will not be released in the U.S. until March 2012 when the Prius C cars are already here in the U.S.

Also the last time I checked Hawaii is in the U.S. so I don't get it.....

I don't get it either. Maybe cause we're closer to Japan??;)

The only difference is that there are only about 7 dealerships selling Toyotas in all of Hawaii - all Servco and only, IIRC, three on Oahu.

One possible but improbable explanation: A shipment to Hawaii would provide enough cars for all dealers to get a demo and extras. A shipment to the West Coast means the cars would have to be spread out to many more dealerships - the one shipment wouldn't go as far as in Hawaii.

In, IIRC, December I went to the dealer to look at the Prius v. I also asked about the C's. The salesman told me "for sale in March" and that they might receive the cars in mid or late February and receive info and training on the features before they started selling in March.

I was surprised to get a call last Friday, 2/17, from the dealer. I figured just calling to show me the car. Then they told me: "The C's are in - and we're selling them!" As I said in my previous post - they don't even have brochures or any advertising stuff. All the specs are in printouts from the computer and we sat at a computer and salesman pulled up pictures and ads online to give me an idea of the colors and features.

    YMMV

Last week I checked in with our local
Toyota Dealer. One of the salesman had no
idea what a Prius C even was.

The other salespeople told him that
he missed the meeting last week.

Also they did not have any brochures on the
Prius C even though there are probably hundreds
of Prius C's in the Toyota warehouses in California.

All this time and the Hawaii contingent isn't saying a word. Maybe they had to sign a secrecy agreement before they pulled out of the dealer's lot. Some one out there should have some comments by now, no?

Come on people, we need to hear real world experiences. Please?

I got "the call" and am buying one sight-unseen. We do not even have a demo or any brochures yet.
I'm going for the model 3.
    Been driving Prius since 2006.
Anyone want to buy my 2006 silver Prius? 105K miles... still runs great - actual average mpg is 56.

Picked up my Prius C last week thursday. I purchased the top C4 package in Classic Silver metallic. So far So good... my only disappointment is no entune here in Hawaii. I purchased the car from Servco Honolulu and was told that I was the first person in Hawaii to have bought the C4 level trim.

So far I have put on 308 miles on the car and still have 3 bars of gas left out of the original 10. No idea how that translates into gallons. I am still getting used to the tripmeter functions but overall it says that my average is 47.8 MPG with mixed City and Highway use. The best I seen So far in a single trip has been 69.1 MPG on a 9 mile trip. I really don't know how accurate the trip meters are but will be happy if I can get 450 miles out of a full tank.

There are some interesting things that are different from what I expected mostly on the interior. In press release photos the interior of the C4 prius had a piece of blue trim above the glovebox, my car does not. Also of note is that the models with Pushbutton start do not have an unsightly plastic plug on the steering column as seen in press release photos.

Still wondering if entune will ever be available in Hawaii. The Display Audio unit has login options for entune but I can't do anything since I cannot even create an entune account. Toyota USA site says my VIN# is invalid.

Our VIN's won't work on Toyota USA's websites. Up until a few years back we could not even get cars with navigation here in the islands. We will probably never see Entune or SOS Safety Connect available either. I will be looking for you around town.

And now I'm brought back to reality. :p You have mild temps this time of year, so I can't imagine the climate being much more ideal (unless you've been running A/C on high and not using Eco mode for the last 308 miles).

I am still getting used to driving this car. This is my first prius, my only other experience with a prius was as a 3rd gen rental car in Houston a year ago. I probably could have gotten 53+ MPG over the last 308 miles but I have been stress testing the car and not driving it as one would normally do so. Here in Honolulu the terrain can be quite steep, we have horribly short freeway onramps, wicked traffic, and so on. I have been testing the car on steep inlines, full throttle acceleration, not to mention sitting in the car with the HSD on not moving while I figure things out. I have been using eco mode only 50% of the time. I am quite confident that i will see 50-60+ MPG in real world use once I master driving this little pup.

I have some buyers remorse as I could have spent another $3k-7k more and have gotten myself a very well equipped Camry XLE Hybrid, Liftback Prius 4/5, Prius V or even a Lexus Ct. Albeit none of those options would be able to deliver the fuel economy numbers that the Prius c can deliver. I have to admit that the Prius c is small and even with the top end C4 package the car still feels cheap. In the end the Prius c still has its place. In short I think Toyota has found the right blend of technology, build quality and fuel economy that will be hard to beat for a fully equipped sub $25k car.

Exactly why I ordered the C. After getting our 2007 Fit I realized with driving conditions here - a small, subcompact was the car I wanted for 99% of the driving I do.

One of my wife's relatives bought a used regular Prius and now have well over 125,000 miles on it. Average is 45+ mpg.

The driving conditions here can be "challenging" - Dionysus81 and dustoff003 will know what I mean when I say both the University of Hawaii area on-ramps are bad - especially during heavy traffic hours- the Kokohead bound one is suicidally short.

The parking situation is often terrible too - just went to a hospital yesterday (Queen's) - the main lot was filled and many of the spaces in the other lot were too small to get into because pickups and SUVs were parking in "compact" stalls which are often tight for even compacts.

Edited to add: Gas is hitting $4.20/regular here on Oahu. Scared to look what's it like on the Neighbor Islands.

    YMMV (literally)
