At 140K on Prius 2001 I replaced the HV battery at the dealer. I'm pretty disappointed in the mileage I'm getting: 37 for combination city and highway. It's 40-55 degrees in Portland this time of year but still I used to get about 46mpg in the winter. Am I seeing the results of engine wear or should I take the car back for a look? It really seems like the battery does not engage for as long as it used to when starting up. It kicks in at about 5 mph or not at all. I just got an ODBII unit and am going to try tracking stuff with my phone. If anyone has experience with what the relevant things to watch, do share. Thanks!!
why would the engine have any more wear after the replacement than before? if they put in a new battery, you should be getting the same mpg's as before, all things being equal. how many tanks have you put on her so far? btw :welcome:
Hi Bisco, thanks for replying. My mileage before replacement dwindled to 33 so it's hard to say. The first battery completely died eventually. I've put in about 4 tanks since the replacement.
