Just get the Prius 10 day ago had the oil changed with Max Life checked the car over all looks and runs good just did first fill up got 41.5mpg what should i be looking for and what should i be doing. The hv battery was replaced at 200,000 and the aux battery is two years old.
1. Find the maintenance and warranty manual (can be found on the toyota.com website under the Owners link), and perform all of the maintenance tasks listed for 120K miles. 2. Drain the transaxle ATF, remove the transaxle drain pan, clean the sludge out of the drain pan and reinstall the pan with a new pan gasket. Refill with 5 quarts of Toyota ATF T-IV. 3. Start saving for repair bills: you'll likely need a transaxle or another traction battery in 50K miles or so. Good luck.
Thanks on the trans is this some thing i can do or do i take it to the Toyota house it looks like the ATF cost about 6 or 7 dollars a quart still checking about the gasket. Taking car to Toyota Friday to do the recall from last year the other two were already done.
If you have two jackstands to raise the front of the car and the correct metric sockets then it will be quite easy to remove the transaxle drain pan and refill the transaxle with ATF. There are many postings about how to change transaxle ATF fluid. Make sure you can remove the fill plug, before you start draining the old fluid. Classic has a drain pan whereas newer Prius do not. Tightening torque of the drain pan bolts, IIRC, is around 5 to 6 ft.-lb. Use blue Loctite on the drain pan bolts. Tightening torque of the fill plug is 29 ft.-lb. If you remove the drain plug on the drain pan, the tightening torque is around 26 ft-lb IIRC. You are supposed to use new aluminum washers on the drain and fill plugs, but they should be good for at least one reuse without leakage.
