I'm having a hard time deciding which wheel to get so I thought I would see what everyone else thinks. It has come down to these 2 wheels.

Montegi Racing 17x7 =40mm SP10 in Hyper Black (17 lbs.)

My vote is for the 17" SP10 in hyper black. That's a nice looking wheel. The other one looks more generic to me.

Matte gray is too boring for aftermarket rims. I'd go for something more unique like bronze. Gunmetal looks great on BP with solar too.

I would think you would get a smoother ride with 16".

  6. My vote is for the SP10's. Those were pretty high in my list of rims.

While I voted for the SP10, I think a 16" would be a happy medium between better handling, looks and losing too much mpg or comfort. :)

That is the hardest decision. I like the SP10 but it doesn't come in a 16" size. The MR125 is nice looking, though matte grey is not my first color choice. I figure that I could always paint them. Both of these are pretty light wheels that look nice. I would like bronze wheels but my wife doesn't like them that much. I was thinking I could always put on a nice gloss coat over the matte grey finish. :) The weird part is that the MR125 is more expensive then the SP10.

The other benefit is that the 16" 205/55R16 size offers a lot more LRR choices then the 205/50R17 size does.

Snap up the bronze TE37s from Bino and put them on without your wife's noticing then it'd be too late ;) They look like the MR125s.

I asked for some better pics of them. The pics he posted of his car were terrible. :(

Rays has the Super Eco 16's - they are a fabulous forged and light wheel. They are also nice and expensive, too!

Gruppe-S is selling a set of Weds Louresh RF 16x6 +45 wheels that were made for the Prius. I actually saw the wheels in person a couple weeks ago. They look great, but personally, I have reservations about going with a 16" wheel. Its a personal thing, but I couldnt do 16s simply because the Prius 5 comes with 17s.

I just asked him if they are still available. I wish the offset was better because of the narrow width. :(

I like the SP-10 color & design better. Personally, when I upgraded my wheels I had the same conflict of wanting to go w/ 16's because of the benefit of less weight & more tire choice but the main reason I went w/ 17's is I know I would have regretted it later because 17" is the minimum I would want to upgrade to or not upgrade at all but that's just me;).

Here's some pics with a 2010 and 16" + 205/55-16's straight off a 2008 Matrix. Only drawback is the pics are lousy quality and the guys tires look a little shabby, not groomed well. There seems to be a lot of wheel well gap though. I still don't like the idea of 45 series tires on prius though. Maybe you could run 205/50 - 17's ? That's what the Mazda3 hatch comes with stock. Don't know about hybrid tire selection though.

Is that 6" width correct? That's weird. The OEM's are 15x6, 16x16.5 (Corolla S / Matrix, pretty sure Civic too) and 17x7

I tried the same wheels from my 07 Matrix on my Prius too. If the SP10 was made in a 16" size I would grab them for sure. This pic was before I installed the Eibach springs.

This is the biggest problem for me too. The 16" tires weigh less then 17" tires & there are a lot more LRR choices in the 205/55R16 then 205/50R17. I can look at 215/45R17 tires since there are more choices but I was trying to keep the tire width at 205 to help with mpg's too.

    This is driving me crazy!!!!!!

I am also considering doing something crazy like new wheels and tires but my package came out to 1500+ so I think there will be a long wait before I spill out that, maybe when current tires go bad! Enkei Racing RPF1 with Michelin Primacy LRR. Would look good on my Black III, but man what cost, might as well do suspension!
