There really isn't that much price difference from a Three Plus package compared to a Five with the Plus springs & rear bar. Add in LED lighting, the Softex seats, faster steering ratio on the Five  Hmmm...

    Yo...Kinred Earthbounds.....

I will never buy a new car. If you go to E-Bay Motors type in....Salvage Prius...search... up pops Prius's that Prius owners have refused ( after the Insurance Companies have fixed them ) refuse to take back.

Nowdays, the insurance Companies fix minor fender-benders and total them out.

Never buy a ' salvaged ' Prius that has been hit hard enough to set-off its air bags.

I bought my fixed Royal Blue 2010 Pruis with 5,446 miles on it from a Prius shop in

LA that buys Prius's from Insurance Co. sales.

its air bags never went off. It had a minor hit on the driver's side front fender....fixed by the LA shop.

The LA shop paid + $12,000.00 for my baby at the insurance sale in Denver,

    Colorado.

They sold it to me, with the fixed and re-painted front fender, for... + $15,000.00.

You would never know it had a minor ding. I added a front strut to strut bar over the

engine ....so... now it handles tight....like a BMW !

    Cheers !
    Jim

Note that there are two PLUS packages now for 2012. There's the PLUS Appearance package (rim + body kit) and the PLUS Performance package (all the Appearance stuff plus the lowering springs and rear sway bar). Make sure you're getting the one you want.

Oh and by Prius Expert, he probably just means he's the "go-to" guy in the area. I had a salesman call himself the Corolla expert. He couldn't even describe the changes for the new 2005 model year and told me that the rims had changed even though we were standing beside a 2004 and a 2005 model.

I would check on that I wonder what the package prices are?

    I just looked,
    The MSRP pricing:

    • PLUS Appearance Package is $2999 MSRP[2] for the Prius Two, Three and Four (low-profile tires included), and $2299 MSRP[2] for the Prius Five.
    • PLUS Performance Package is $3699 MSRP[2] for the Prius Two, Three and Four (low-profile tires included), and $2999 MSRP[2] for the Prius Five.
Prius PLUS packages are only available in the following colors: Classic Silver Metallic, Black, Blizzard Pearl, Winter Gray Metallic.

I did a few builds on the Toyota site last night and seen the break down of the Plus package. I bet the dealer was quoting me the appearance package.

But,,,what has got me wondering now is the Three with the Plus Performance parts is basically the same price as a Five without the Technology option (I believe it is called that). What to do now? Buy a Five or a Three Plus Performance  I also went on TireRack.com and looked up some ~16 pound wheels but couldn't find a nice set like the Plus package comes with. What a mess now...

    disagree....
    5 MPG = HUGE sacrifice!

think of it like this......you not only just paid more money to purchase said Rims....but now you're losing one gallon of gas at every fill up....

Go 360 miles per tank or 400 miles per tank

50mpg or 45mpg with expensive rims....
(typical fill up = 8 gallons)
    8gallons x (-)5mpg = 40 miles lost per every tank.
    Did I do that right?

    Not true...

I have the PPP ( Plus Performance Package) and consistently get 48-49 mpg. I drive about 25 miles each way to work and alot of freeway speeds ( which for me is around 70-75).

    Sorry, misread thread title.

50 MPG to 45 MPG, you pump in 1 extra gallon at fillup every 450 miles.

I've seen the Plus sitting next to regular Prius and yes, it sits noticeably lower. The rims are hot though, never seen an aftermarket set that match the car as much, to me.

    Sure.

Advanced Technolgy Package - Optional on Trim Level 5 only.
Prius Performance Plus - package or individual components, optional on any trim level.

My implication is that I bought a 2012 Prius Hatchback, Trim level 5 with ATP, and PPP springs & rear anti-sway installed by Toyota.

I plan to purchase the PPP forged 17" wheels after-market. That way I can keep the stock 17" take-offs.

    She's a real motor scooter!

    Lots!, lol.

    About $1400.00 below MSRP.

You can build one at ToyoaUSA.com/BuildAPrius (<--- not a link) and it will total the MSRP as you add levels and options.

It depends on how wide the rims (and hence tires) are, but factory 17" doesn't reduce actual mpg that much on the Gen III. More like a mpg hit of 2 or less.

And you would probably get 52+mpg if you had the 15s. :)
