We just bought a 2009 Touring #6 a couple of weeks ago. Love the car and 48+ MPG for my long commute is great. The problem is my wife does not like leather seats. She has put towels on all the seats which though it does protect the seats - detracts from the look of the car interior. Therefore, I am looking for someone in the Southern California area with 2009 cloth seats in very good (or better) condition that would LIKE leather. My cars seats are in excellent condition. I can do the mechanical work of swapping them. The obvious alternative is cloth seat covers, but if there is a good swap available that would help 2 people. PM if interested and we can further discuss details offline. regards, David
Have you thought about using seat covers? You can get some really nice grey/silver lambswool covers that are super comfortable? I haven't got a picture of mine handy, but they look much that same as the ones Boo posted (reply #4) here: http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-...not-100-happy-my-shearcomfort-sheepskins.html
I recently purchased a 2007 CPO Prius from a Toyota Dealer. Seats are in good condition (its a certified pre-owned!) I am not sure if they are the same seats (I think they should be), but if you are interested, then so am I. I live in Norwalk but work in Fontana. Message me if you want pictures. I am on call in the Bay area this weekend so I will have to get pictures up on Monday.
as promised here are the pictures. I sent you a PM for details. They are from my mobile phone so the quality is a bit shoddy. Let me know Thanks! -Doni
Are there a lot of people interested in this? I'm thinking of buying a gen II prius in the bay area with leather seats and would want to trade them-- I assume it's just a couple bolts and an hour's work?
I would love to trade too, we were bummed that leather seats weren't an option in 2004. But ours is a 2004 and tan interior. Leather just looks and wears better to me, plus with kids it is nice to be able to just wipe up a spill instead of having to actually clean it. My Prius is my first non-leather equipped car in like my last 4 car purchases.
I am in the bay area and have a 04 and would be willing to trade when you got yours if it has a tan interior and the seats are factory leather (as opposed to an aftermarket cover change). I don't know how simple it would be, the seats should be no problem, my question would be about doing it without triggering the side airbags as I have no idea how those work. I know years ago when I went to a shop about doing something different with my seats, they quoted me a price based on me first going to the dealer to have the airbags disconnected and then having to go back to the dealer to reconnect them. I have no idea if that was just an over abundance of caution, or if that really is a problem of triggering the airbags when disconnecting. I would strongly guess the former, but don't actually know.
They were just being overly cautious. There is a connector under each front seat. If you disconnect the battery before removal there is NO chance for airbag deployment. Even that is not NECESSARY. I have removed the steering wheel (with airbag) from my 1999 Miata several times while working on the car with no issues.
I did the swap with johnmaso today. Very easy swap from 2007 to 2009. Less than an hour! Very happy to meet a fellow PriusChat member.
It was a pleasure meeting a fellow PriusChat member also! It was fun, and I hope you enjoy the seats as I do mine! And to top it all off, I got 56.7 MPG for the entire 170 mile trip!
I am about to start my heated front seats project and wish to confirm the above opinion. I did R&R my front seats in my '07 HCH when I put heated seats in that and never disconnected the 12 volt battery and never had any SRS issues. I'd just like to confirm that in other folks experiences with the ('08) Prius, as long as the vehicle is "off" and the smart key is "far away" and the smart key kill switch is "set", one can R&R the front seats without disconnection of the 12 volt battery and have no drama with the SRS. On a side-bar note: my Bentley repair manual for my '08 Prius has the WRONG procedure to remove the back seats. How does one remove the back seat cushion? There seems to be a mechanical lock preventing me from removing the seat cushion....and I cannot for the life of me undo the front hooks of the backseat lower seat cushion...... Please and thank-you Cheers Mike
yeah I removed my stock steering wheel and replaced with a leather wrapped touring wheel with battery connected w/o SRS issues (twice actually- don't ask why lol)
