Hi prius owners, I'm getting low gas mileage (34mpg) on my 2002 Prius. I just changed the hybrid battery with Gen 2 cells. What can the reason for this be? spark plugs? mass air flow sensor? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Gen1 in winter for short trips (under 10 miles) can give awful mileage. Go on a 50 mile trip and see what you get. Also, were the Gen2 cells you used "known good" and balanced?

I guess the battery wasn't balanced or something but after installing gen 2 batteries without balancing them and using for 2 weeks now I'm getting 42 mpg. someone told me that once installed the batteries will balance themselves. no need to balance them beforehand.
