Exactly my thinking. What about the PiP, where most journey's first 20+km will be done in EV mode only?

I don't know what to say. I will say that at Liberty Toyota, they forgot to completely install the dip stick. They also left hand prints on the car which I was not happy about. I know everyone is about getting their share but you pay for service and it upsets me they didn't service your car.

Did you even read this thread? They did service the OP's car per factory recommendations. Just not the unnecessary oil change that the OP expected.

I did read his post, we are unclear if his oil was serviced or not. Only going off what he is stating. I have been keeping track of everything that has been done to my car. At 10k they serviced my oil. So I'm uncertain if the OP paid for the oil. Would help if there was a pic of the invoice for us all to see. To reference this "I know everyone is about getting their share but you pay for service and it upsets me they didn't service your car." only said in general about all the service complaints we all have had.

There is no charge on the invoice for the line item "Oil Synthetic", I did not pay either.

I was told and was scheduled to come in by my sales person in Aug. for a 5K mile oil change.

I never asked for one and I never confirmed what was being done to the car that day and only read the invoice when I got home from work. Nothing was paid, its under warranty for the visit.

It's my first new car that is a hybrid so I was not aware of the 10K oil changes.

They did overfill the oil by half a quart, that I removed, so I assumed they changed it and put 4 qts. by mistake.

Was the oil changed? I don't think so, I removed dark color oil, but I was told I was in for an oil change.

    Bad service IMO.

You haven't answered whether you put in synthetic or dino oil when you changed the oil at the 1,000 mile mark. Something is off and synthetic oil shouldn't be "dark as molasses" after only 5k miles.

When I changed the oil at 1000 I only used Mobil 1 0w-20.

When I removed the excess at 4200 I found the same color of this prius chat post.

What the dealer did I'm not sure.

It's not so much a matter of oil change not getting done but why the OP's oil turned molasses dark after only 4k miles when it was supposed to be synthetic.

it could be moleasses because the dealer never changed the filter nor the oil

You didn't read this thread. The OP apparently changed the oil himself at the 1k mile mark. He now has 5k miles on his car. The dealer wasn't expected to change the oil at the last service per factory recommendations and yet the oil has turned molasses black after 4k miles, which is unusual for synthetic oil.

Some dealers still "offer" a free oil change at 1000 miles -- not sure if Toyota still recommends this on any cars at this time -- Lexus did ten years ago? My Toyota dealer has a free inspection and oil change with the proper synthetic at 1000 miles. It really is a waste ----5k would be more worthwhile -- but a lot of cars go 10k now on a change. I was surprised Toyota lists a 6 month change -- Porsche has a two year limit on low miles.

Anyway -- On our fleet Lexus vehicles ... that use regular oil --- they are surprisingly clean at 5-6k when we change them. All of our cars that have an extended change interval use synthetic oil -- and by the time it gets changed it is looking fairly dark at 10k+ ......... After the change the synthetic filled cars always have darker looking oil.

Synthetics have more cleaning agents and are better at suspending the dirt -- So the oil often looks dirty at earlier miles.

Is anyone concerned about why / when the oil was over-filled?
If the dealer was following reccs and not doing an oil change at 5K, would he have topped off the oil and overfilled it? And not put a charge on the invoice? (I know it's free service, but tehy still put down the charge for their parts, so they can get credited from Big Toyota).

Or did the OP overfill it?

If the dealer chose to "top off" an already full oil reservoir isn't that a cause for concern? I've definitely read that overfilling can be very damaging to these engines.

Dealer over filled it and I removed a 1/2 quart of oil with a little 12v pump.

Even if they offered me cash to perform basic maintenance, there isn't a dealership on the planet I'd let touch my vehicle for anything other than obvious warranty issues.

And just a heads up for anyone considering ever using Northridge Toyota for anything...DON'T GO ANYWHERE NEAR THAT DEALERSHIP, I can tell you some serious horror stories, one experienced by me, as well as a few other folks.

It's unfortunate that you live somewhere that the dealerships are so horrible. Around here they are generally pricey but competent.
