Yeh, but that Ballmer monkey-boy dance is boss. Never would have seen Jobs dancing like that.

    I'll let y'all decide if that's a good or a bad thing.

Well you can say that, but it doesn't make it true. ;)

i gave my wife a macbook a couple years ago because she always struggled using my dell laptop. the keyboard is a little nicer, spillproof i think. cost me over a grand and the dell equivelant was around $400.
i use dell because that's what we have at work and it's easier for my administrator. i have no complaints, they last 4-5 years before they implode. but they are a third the price of apple and i like getting a new machine. they definitely improve over time.:)

I've been an IT guy for places that used Dells, and I also found them nice to work with.

I got a Dell for myself, as did a couple of other people I know, and all three were total crap.

So, to summarize: Dells at work = pretty good; Dells at home = OMG AVOID! DANGER WILL ROBINSON!

    Agreed.

Business Class Dells are a different "company" essentially. Just like Cisco Commercial/Industrial vs. Cisco Consumer vs. Linksys. All the same company, but different design engineers. (as I type this from a business class Dell)

An iPad, a power book, (previous apple lap top), a couple of gen 1 iPods, a iPod shuffle (probably my favorite $10 eBay toy!), apple Tv system, airport router with built in back up HD. I also have a I phone that has no service I use to stream Pandora into the stereo..

The IPad came s a gift, the lap top bought new, the iPods rescued from the scrap heap when people moved on,, and they had little resale value. I did buy the router and apple TV. the iPhone was also a cast off.

    Icarus

The last dell I had was a POS and lasted about an hour longer than the warrantee. The MacBooks cost twice as much, but are much nicer machines,, none of the small lap tops like rough handling though.

The industrial design of the machine affects me continuously, as do the aesthetics. I'm not always willing to pay more for that stuff, but I am in the case of a computer.

A Big THANK You to all for your responses both pro and con.

I own both a PC and a MacBook Air. The Sony Vaio with Windows 7 that cost just as much is a total moron. Apart from the occasional crashes and freezing screens, the biggest problem is the Vaio Care which pops up at random and intrudes with what I am doing. It then wants to take control. Don't buy a Vaio.

From the first Macintosh, Steve Jobs was way ahead, still is and don't forget that Windows was a poor interpretation of the MAC OS.

Am I the only one that owned a Newton? It was a novelty at first but was an incomplete product, one of very few crap that came from Apple. The best thing was the spring loaded collapsible stylus that came with it. Still have it tucked away somewhere.

I bought one -- I forgot its name.
I was happy with it until a colleague showed me his little PDA he carried in his front shirt pocket, used for everything I wanted out of the Newton, and was a speed demon to use.

this is interesting, i'm on a 17" vostro now. not sure how to differentiate between 'business' and 'home use'. i just went to dell.com, called up and ordered it. 600 bucks, no complaints except for the first few months i kept getting a message 'internet connection lost', and then it just stopped doing it and it's been fine ever since.

My two housemates at the time bought Newtons, but one of them is The Ultimate Apple Fanboy(tm) - from buying very first generation Mac, to standing in line at the Apple store to be a First Day Buyer.

I started with the first Mac, graduated to a Mac IIÆ’x, and now work with a G5. We enjoy a wealth of Apple products - Apple TV, large format monitors, iPhones. Apple is seamless in that what I do on one product I can readily access on my Powerbook, desktop, iPhone and other units. iCloud only moves things forward.

I've always bought "value" products. That rules out brands that charge a premium just for the name - like Apple or Sony. Ofcourse, I build my own PCs.

Recently bought an old iPod for my Leaf - since per GB cost was less than what I'd have to pay for a USB drive ;)

We've become an Apple household. It was a slow migration. I used to be all PC all the time. I built them, took them apart, tweaked them and put them back together. I over clocked them and was pretty good with them. But I grew tired of it and just wanted to be a user for a change. I still like tinkering but I no longer take it to the extreme.

    Products:
    Her:
    - iPod Mini (5 year anniversary)
    - iPod Nano - 4th gen (10 year anniversary)
    - MacBook - white one (Christmas a few years ago)
    - iPhone 3Gs
    Me:
    - iPod Nano - 3rd Gen (won)
    - iMac (replaced last PC)
    - iPad2 (birthday last year)
    - iPhone 3

And as long as we're sharing screenshots, here's my multiverse Mac running WinXP and Fedora. I learned a long time ago that Windows runs faster, more stable and looks better on a Mac.

All our Intel Macs are Dual Boot so that I don't have to use a Virtual Environment. I love having the option.

My son gets into some serious robotics software development at a commercial level and prefers running Windows on a Mac too.
