Last tank was 48.94 calculated mpg. This is quite good considering
winter with 10% Ethanol fuel and winter blend as well.

In summer it would be about 55 mpg calculated.

    I'm in the 21st month of a 24 month hypermiling training/experiment
using a 2010 Toyota Prius III. I've logged about 18700 miles sofar
in mainly urban-suburban stop-and-go congested traffic environment
(Washington DC metro Area) with my overall fuel efficiency at
60 mpg. My highest fuel efficiency calculated at the pump sofar
has been 70 mpg and my lowest fuel efficiency calculated at the
pump sofar has been 52 mpg. My speed normally varies from 0mph
to 50 mph with the Prius MFD normally showing an average
speed of 18 mph. My lowest fuel efficiency sofar was from 2010
December to 2011 Feburary (winter time) when it dipped 52 mpg.
My highest fuel efficiency was early fall 2011 when I got 70 mpg
over 727 miles. My hypermiling results on the superhighway are
much less impressive with an average of about 55 mpg (driving
all day on +600 mile Interstate highway from MD to MI road trip).
For my regular commute this year, I'm getting about 58 mpg
on my 2010 Prius this winter - a 6 mpg improvement over
last winter; I think this improvement is due in part to the overall
warmer termperatures this winter compared to last winter AND
because the Prius tire's rolling resistances is probably lower
due to the extra wear. One of the reasons, I can get these numbers
is that I've design my commute route which can take advantage of the
Prius' ability to extend a glide session at speeds under 30 mph. I've
design sections of my commuting route where I can often glide from 25mph
to 35 mph for 0.5 to 2.0 miles without stopping without impeding traffic.

    • I do have 15" wheels
    • I've had the car a week, but haven't checked pressure, so it's probably close to however the dealer sets it (presumably according to the manual?)
    • My MPG for the tank is down to about 50 now (more hills and cold), average speed is 30
    • No "trips", just a couple of 60 mile highway legs and the rest in the city.
    • To be honest, I'm so happy with this mileage compared to my last TCH (I know, apples and oranges), that I'm not inclined at the moment to do any fuel efficiency mods.
    • I'm also looking for a slight boost as the tires break in.

I took delivery of my 2011 Prius in late August. It just turned 5000 miles and the gas mileage has been steadily going up. My first tank was just over 53 MPG and yesterday's fill yielded 59.45 MPG. I've learned to drive to optimize mileage especially through towns but I believe part of the steady increase could be from the car breaking in. The above mileage figures are manually calculated at fill up. The car's consumption average readout is always about 2 MPG or so higher.

    Great mileage.
Living there in warm weather you probably won't see many tanks under 50 MPG. The Prius loves warm weather.
