I'm a new Prius owner (<1 month) and have a hopefully easy problem to solve. I have a 2006 model. Whenever I unlock the car, the alarm sounds. This is pretty embarrassing so I would love to make it stop. The alarm sounds no matter how I unlock it - using the remote or with the key. It did not do this for the first couple weeks, so I'm hoping that I just accidentally activated something that can be easily reversed. I thought it might be warning me that the remote was dying, so I replaced the battery. Didn't solve the problem. Please help! Thank you!
What do you mean by the alarm sounding? Is it just a beep, or something else. If it's more than a beep, there must be an aftermarket alarm installed on the car.
Did you recently change the door unlock configuration? The drivers door unlock by smart key only unlocks it. It can be changed to unlock all doors at once. Some after market alarms get confused by other doors opening before or with the driver door. My fix for that was to pay $50 to have the aftermarket alarm removed.
I assume you have an after-market alarm. Many are problematic. We would need to know what alarm system before anyone could offer meaningful suggestions. Tom
Sorry we can't be much help on this.... Given its an aftermarket add-on, it could be many different things from many different companies. I would recommend you find a local car alarm installer with a good reputation (maybe check Angie's list or the like) - take the car to them and ask them to find and disable any non factory alarm system.
The procedure is in the owner's manual. (If you don't have a copy, buy one; it's filled with stuff you need to know.)
